That picture makes me want to post a link to the Milton Friedman choir singing on corporate responsibility if only because Friedman said the same thing but had a different view.

I do believe this shall degenerate into a flame war if these circumstances continue.

Please everyone, before posting take a deep breath.

Nobody has flamed yet. I really am not that concerned, when I actually see people attack their opponents then I will be concerned.

All it really comes comes down to is a personal decision:
Which means more, people you don't know being given good jobs, vs. cheap prices.
I think a bank would take the grip Wal-Mart has on America and increase it 100-fold, which probably isn't a good thing. "Absolute Power corrupts Absolutely."

Now that you mention it. When Wal-Mart moves into a small enough town they pretty much become the only store and employer in town which IS sort of like communism.

I would choose cheap prices, the reason being that in my mind the purpose of production ultimately falls down to appeasing the consumer and because of that the best way in most cases to create the most efficient system is to choose cheap prices.

I am not that afraid. I think that if wal-mart opened up a bank it would probably be aimed at helping out the cheap and poor at saving their money which would be a good thing at least for the latter. It might increase the size of wal-mart but for the most part wal-mart only has the power that one gives it.

I've seen that before.

I once stayed with a relative in a small town. Wal-Mart moved and developed a monopoly on both jobs and goods.

Technically it cannot be the only employer otherwise it would be gaining nothing... unless there is a distribution center or some larger scale organizational structure such as that. Also, although that may be compared to communism in only one thing, I think it is ultimately a function of economies of scale. Wal-mart is there because it is most efficient.

Much of the time Wal-Mart is less efficient, they sell products of lesser quantities disguised as products of greater quantities, so you end up paying more than you would somewhere else, but you don't know it.
