I really don't care as long as they don't try to enforce their crap on me.

I'm against it, really, every living organism on this planet survives pretty much by eating other living organisms. Don't see why we can't. We're the top of the food chain, might as well use that to our advantage.

ok first off, yeah you'll meet the occasional judgemental veggie/vegan. HOWEVER we are not all like that saying that is as annoying to me as the Rainman assumption. I am vegan and I make no apologies for that. Second off this is a 2 way street people, I've had an unbelievable number of meat eaters try to convert me or think it's funny to chuck meat at me hell my own father force fed me the stuff for years despite the fact that the texture alone made me wanna throw up (one of my biggest sensory issues) and yes I mean LITERALLY force fed, even if we were eating out at the time . You wish me to respect your decision then can you at least respect mine too? Next up the jokes are not funny and to be honest probably weren't even when the first jackass came out with them years ago. Finally, please do not compare me to PETA, those fools have done more harm to the reputations of vegetarians and vegans the world over than YEARS of propoganda could, they are more like a business than a charity.
OK sorry for the long rant in short the message is this, the same as in any group of people you will meet idiots who take things too far, please stop assuming we are all like that. We won't give you a hard time about your beliefs but please extend the same common curteusy to us. If you are unfortunate enough to meet a loudmouthed idiot (most often employed at PETA) please bear in mind you are ealing with a buffoon and not a standard veggie or vegan, thanks for reading, especially those of you who made it right to the bottom.

Even if they're not linked to PETA, they still can be self-righteous and annoying. You seem to think we're attacking ALL vegans/vegetarians, we're only criticizing the holier-than-thou self-righteous types. If you're vegan, then good for you and I won't judge you... just don't tell me to stop eating meat.

i don't think you should generalize vegetarians.

I'm a vegetarian and do not criticize carnivorous...

&& i find it rude when non-veges tell me there's something wrong with me bc i don't eat meat..

Where was I generalizing here? Another thing that annoys me: victim complex.

I don't think she was referring to you at all, it sounded like a general response to the attitudes in this thread. You're playing the victim as much as she is.

I get anoyed with them aswell.... it's the whole thing though.... Dont eat animals, then they aproach a tiger and say "oh that can eat meat though..." it makes no sense whatsoever, they force their views upon you, and it's anoying. Veganism is worse though... that's plain mallnurished stupidity...

I love my Alberta beef steak and I like it rare and cooked over a fire or bbq.Just as much I love my steak, I can't force a vegetarian to eat meat, just as they cant force me to eat veggies and tofu all the time.I can't stand tofu.I tried it, and hated it.I once had a roomate for a while who was a vegetarian. We all had our own food and such.My side was the typical ketchup, mustard, hotdogs, relish, some fruits, some veggies, eggs, milk, mayonaise, etc, and her side was all bok choy, tofu, etc.It was all creeping onto my side of the fridge.I let that go, and ignored it.What i couldnt stand with this roomate, was the way she kept on just popping out of nowhere.Every morning, as soon as I walked out of my room, she would be in the hall and say something in her forein accent.I have no problem with foreigners or vegetarians, but I dont need them popping up every morning like they are going to give me a big hug when i dont even know them well.I am sure even a NT would be just as creeped out as I was.She moved out eventually because she found a place to rent closer to her work place.

Im a typical Alberta redneck..I love my rare steak and I drive a 4 by 4 at 120km/hr down the QE2 from Red Deer to Edmonton or Red Deer to Calgary.

ah, what is the humour here?
I don't think they extracted the juices from the meat to flavour the tofu etc.

Meh, who cares. You eat what you like. I think us aspies usually share odd eating habits and tastes so we shouldnt be ones to judge.

But I have run across those people who dont eat meat and feel it absolutely necessary to make it a point of fact around anyone who does, and the ones who preach about animal cruelty. That gets annoying, but it has nothing to do with their eating habits. They are the same people who do the same thing with their religion, political views etc etc, the kind of people who want to share their every thought because they feel their way is the only way.

I've flirted with it and every so often feel like giving it a serious try. Allergic to crustacians so i've always just steared away from seafood in general and have grown a big distaste for red meat over the last few years, but chicken, love it. So easy to make, and so endless what you can do, and inexpensive, I dont know how I could get by without chicken =P

I'm a Vegan, but I'm not preachy about it. I occasionally make a few jokes about it, but there is never any seriousness to it (example; friend: "This beef stew tastes like sh*t," me: "Go vegan!"). Veganism is a very complicated and personal thing for me, and my opinion on that matter is that you should only do it if you feel a calling for it. Would I encourage someone to eat less meat then what the average American goes through daily? Yes, for the same reason I would suggest people to not eat Ramon 3 times a day, its a common sense dietary thing. As far as encouraging someone to seriously go vegetarian or vegan, that is not something I like pushing on people. If you're going to do it, find your own reason. Now if someone wants to argue with me about whether or not abstaining from meat and animal products is healthy or not, I'm prepared to do battle, but most people seem to be fine with it.

On the matter of some of my less then tolerant fellows: I have had a good deal of arguments and even fights with several of them over their attitude and methods. Some of them seem to be lacking a lot in the brains department, for example; I fail to see how being an a**hole to everyone that does not follow the same lifestyle as you helps your cause in anyway. Something that is worth noting is that a large amount of people that fall into this category are also members of the Straight Edge movement, and the majority of that group lacks the ability to have any kind of rational discussion.

And in case anyone is curious, the simplified reason for why I am a vegan is because I don't see the difference between my life and an animal's, like say a rat. More specifically I reject the idea that simply because humans are the most powerful species entitles me to use and abuse another species, eating another creature or using it's byproduct is not something I feel comfortable with.

Hey I'm a vegetarian(No meat or fish) and I hate other vegetarians(especialy the preachy ram it down your throat PETA type) I think the OP was refering to . They give the rest of us a bad name. Like some of the other veges I know unless your getting food with me or ask, you won't know I'm a vege. Yes it is for moral reasons but unless you ask why I'm a vegetarian you won't know that.

I don't really get annoyed by people offering meat(I don't like it and I tell them, though if they keep doing it I might not let them cook for me and I could see it bothering me for a while luckily I don't know anyone too bad)

Why do meat eaters always think steak is best? That stuff is horrible even when I ate meat I wouldn't eat that. I'd rather have seaweed soup and nettle tea. :)

When someone goes on about how they are a moral vegetarian. My response is "So was Hitler" That usally shuts them up :) For Bonus points ask if they have plans to visit poland. :D

Oh and I'd rather pet a pig than a cat.

Because pigs are Polish and cats are German, right? (Maus reference)
