Right I have some pics of my counties administrative capital Hertford to post. It's going to be in 18 parts by the looks of it! I'm just uploading part 1 now

Part 1. This is near the Hertford North railway station where I parked my car and began my journey along the river into the town centre.

Part 3 Further along the park way. Oh that type of Brick in the pic is known locally as Arlesey Bricks, they have a kinda dirty yellowish colour to them because of the soil around Bedfordshire being sandy

awesome bricks. i like to think i can kind of imagine what it would feel like to run my fingers and the palms of my hands across the bricks (probably based on my tendency to stop everything and drop whatever i'm doing in order to touch an interestingly textured surface). thanks for the explanation as to the colour.

They have a more smooth and nicer texture then the more common "red" bricks if thats any help. I like them. Most of the older houses and some newer ones around Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and some North London Boroughs are made of them

very helpful. so they must be a little finer textured?

Well it comes down to soil composition. Around London is clay. To the west around the Chilterns (the hills in Buckinghamshire between London and Oxford which fingers out into the north west of Hertfordshire and South west bedfordshire) the soil is made of Chalk. Further north of where I am the soil becomes less chalk and clay and more sand (i.e. a town nearby is called Sandy) Arlesey is just on the edge of this area and it uses the local soil so therefore it gets its yellow colour from the presecence of sand

Is the brewery still open for business? It looks decidedly closed to me.

McMullens? I've had their McMullen's AK. But we don't often see their beers up our way anyway.
