I've been thinking about my future, and I'm more than a little anxious.
I tried to look in the classifieds section in the newspaper, which I've never done before, to see if anyone was looking for a housemate, but I couldn't even find the right section. I could look online, but I'm not a complete doofus.
I keep feeling that it's creepy and wrong to still be living with my parents, especially since I'm in the basement in our new house. -.-
Also, I have no idea what to do with writing advice. Some tell me to look into niche publishing, others tell me to never do that and to self publish instead. Some tell me to start slowly with a book of short stories and poems, others tell me to show off my best work first.
Oh, and I think I have a cold, because my head feels like it's stuffed with wool and moss, and that may be why I'm in a crumby mood.
i'm in a writer's group with folks who self-published. they do tons of marketing - blogs, facebook, twitter, webpages, book signings, contests, writing workshops - and i still don't think they make money at it. if you have a publisher, they help you with the marketing. it's also harder to get a publisher than to self-publish. if you get a publisher (likely only after many submissions and rejections), you will need your own lawyer to look at thee contract before you sign. the publisher risks its funds on your book rather than you taking on that risk, and, in return. keeps part of the profits. self-publishing has lower status. i'm gonna do it anyway. e-publishing is cheaper than traditional publishing, but i've been advised to do both. i'm gonna use a pen name, so that will limit marketing.
