You know what, mine wanted me to do the same thing 20 years ago. I didn't listen, and it took me 19 years to get my bachelor degree, but I did what I wanted and I'm glad.

If I'd done what they wanted, I'd be sitting in an office somewhere as an accountant or something woefully boring like that. I was encouraged for many years to do the exact same thing that my stepsister was doing because she was apparently so awesome at it. So I went and did everything opposite, and I still do.

Guess who's the accountant....it's not me! I nearly cry when I look at how boring her life seems. It might be ok for her, but that's just not for me. Everyone is different. We should be allowed to have our dreams, too.

I still don't know where I want to be, exactly. I just know what my interests are in life and I follow them.

And no, I never had the confidence to think I'd ever get anywhere. But I persisted and I got that college degree, finally.

You're lucky because you already know about this ASD stuff. I had no idea until just recently, so I always beat myself up for being a "loser" although I was really trying my best! I just didn't please my family because I haven't done what they want me to do. I'm old enough now that I'm over it. I can do what I want!
