CR, what did you think of the Olympics opening & closing ceremonies?
I thought of you when Ray Davies came on... 8)

I loved the ceremonies. I was also pleasantly surprised to see Ray Davies perform. I liked how they told a story with the opening ceremony and the things about London culture that they showcased in the closing ceremony. I also liked the light shows, fireworks and effects. I also liked how the red lighting illuminated everyone like an album cover that I like. I thought it was pretty cool to see the Mods on their street scooters. :)

Well I was ready to go all cynical about the opening ceremony and although it had a few weird parts, I thought it was pretty good overall and quite a surprise. Very much better than I expected.

The organisers were keeping it secret about who would appear or even what sort of style it would all take, but they did let on it would be a celebration of UK pop music and they couldn't really do that without featuring Ray Davies. 8)

Pretty good, wasn't it? :D The way all the scenery and stuff moved around was really clever and must have taken hours of rehearsal to get it right for the night. For me, the closing ceremony seemed a bit confusing and chaotic so it was easier to just listen to the music instead.

Those lights up in the stadium were amazing - every single seat there had a small panel of 9 extremely bright lights next to it and they were all controlled to give the impression of one HUGE moving colour picture covering the whole seating area. That must have looked spectacular from the centre of the stadium!
Fireworks I always like and it was nice to see the camera not dancing around, and just showing the display as it happened. The aerial shots of it were good too and reminded me of the Sydney Harbour display for the new year.

Heh yeah, that bit was really good. 8)

wow i had no idea. i mean i wouldnt want to go to this racist hell hole(israel) anyway but wow. i'm not entirely surprised. i wonder how this would effect travel to palestine or protest actions like the freedom flotillas.

pfft wimps. australians are not that soft. haha avoid celebratory gunfire hahaha.

It is neither polite nor wise to make such generalizations based on nationality.

when did i make a generalisation? it's the smart traveller site that thinks australians are wimps and israel is a racist state.

You should quit now before you further reinforce the impression you are bigoted and foolish.

and you should perhaps do some research before you reinforce my impression of you as ignorant. or worse- a zionist.

Research ? You mean like you, who label 4 million individuals as racist and there home as a hellhole, based on.... 'a travel site' ? Or was the 'hellhole' part your own informed embellishment perhaps ? Do you get all your political views and make judgements of entire nations based on somebodies Blog ? To which you add Zionists are worse then ignorant. Yes your viewpoint is clear, and clearly someone elses, since you don't seem to have any personnel knowledge of this subject.

Being at least witness and even at times participant to the events surrounding the Israelis and Palestinians since the Six days War in 67 till today, yet I would refrain from personnally passing judgement on what is basically a dispute between those two peoples. For over 3 millenia both have resided in that area and many are even blood related, both coming from the same preceding regional culture.

Seriously, I regret this unpleasentness disturbs you and possibly others. I have friends on both sides of the very problematic situation living in Palestine and have lost friends to it. What I interpret as predudical and defamatory statements disturbs me, and I feel compelled to rebute them. PMs frankly aren't going to happen. It's bad enough to have to deal with what people say publically. But I think I have said I had to say on the matter, so it should shut down from my end at least.

what part of my op says i based that off of a travel site. ignorance can be fixed, zionists not so much. zionism is a racist ideology and as for personnal knowledge, you're not the only one who has first hand experience. i met people from israel who either decried the horrors that go on there or who defend it and so prove my point and also i do read the news and also i was in lebanon when it was attacked in 2006 and i saw what israel did with my own eyes so i think it is fair to say that israel is deserving of my hatred. yeah those people have resided together for millenia(excpet the ones that are part of israels birthright migration programme) and i see zionism as an impediment to them being able to live side by side peacefully. before israel the situation there was peaceful in comparison to today.

To VMSmith and Toy_Soldier,

I meant no offense. I just thought your discussion may be more easily communicated straight to each other without random "random" comments in the way. By all means post away here. Pay no mind to me. I just scoot by your discussion anyway because I an far to ignorant of the subject matter.

Not really, i'm stressing out because a firned of mine on another site should have been here about 4 hours ago, but they still aren't. It doens't help that by the time they got online yesterday, it was at least 3PM and I'd gone already. :(
