The largest number of friends I ever had at one time was around my college days (in undergrad, that is) and probably had around 8 or so.
Some of them, to be clear, were more "drinking buddies" and people that hung out with me together...and the other ones were remaining friends that had from high school.

Used to do something at my school called "debate club", dropped out a while back.
Also still doing 1 hour and 20 minute sessions after school in art partly for fun
and partly because the teachers recommended it.
