Had about 3 ounces whiskey last night, wasn’t gonna drink tdy but I’m at the PNE/Playland (fair/amusement park rides) and it’s $6-9 for a slushy/lemonade and $9.50 for a beer sooo having a beer right now then back to rides & rollercoasters. 8) (mins you I paid a hefty tip so was $11.81; whatever.)

I found myself with 3 little bottles of tequila after someone left some at work and never claimed them. So I made margaritas!

That’s a pretty typical price for a pint in a bar/pub these days, with specialty craft brews often costing more - like 11-12/pint.

This was for a 12 ounce (draft pour) local craft brew hazy IPA at 5.5% abv. It was “Trash Panda,” from Parallel 49 brewing.

That’s a big part of why I very rarely order a drink in a restaurant or bar.. $12-15 each with tip.

This is me in late 2009, a few months after arriving in Reno, Nevada, and starting experiments in "What would recreational chemicals of various sorts do to Darron's brain?", under the wise tutelage of my then-new girlfriend, 7 years my senior, a Doctor, also a then-undiagnosed Autistic, and vastly more experienced than I in the many and sundry ways of molecular mental enhancement...

The booze I was pretending to quaff in this photo was much like the cheap crap that I watched my adoring grandmother slowly drink herself to death with, as a child. She used to occasionally give me a tiny amount in a shot glass, and I felt privileged and adored to share in this strange ritual that she indulged in every day, all day.

It seemed less strange and more horrifying as I aged and understood more about what alcohol could do to people, especially that one night when my younger brother and I were being "babysat" by my grandmother so my parents could have a night out, and I went into my grandmother's bedroom and found her sprawled on her bed, unresponsive to my increasingly panicked touch and vocal appeals, resulting in a panicked telephone call to my parents, saying "Nannie's DEAD!"
Shortly thereafter, they arrived, managed to arouse my heavily drunk Nannie, berated her, and took us both home.
This may be my earliest memory of how alcohol could be a VERY bad thing to indulge in, and I abstained almost completely until I was 40 years old, and moved to Reno...

To Be Continued...

Ended up having another 1.5 ounces (st remy brandy & kamora) in cold brew coffee with ice and milk.

A regular black coffee was $4 or so, these were $12.50. What the hell, only go to the fair maybe once every 5 years for the $ it costs. (A lot.. like damned near costs what it costs to go to Disneyland for a day.)

Toro Loco Spanish red wine from Aldi.

Absolute bargain at just over £4.

I went to the pub to meet a friend earlier today feeling anxious and stressed and I used beer/drinking at a faster pace a means to calm my nerves.

It’s a horrible habit/cycle though.

Had about 1.5 ounces of whiskey last night. Probably will have a can of beer or two today - but not certainly.

Vicious cycle, indeed.. especially since alcohol murders healthy gut flora that then contributes to increased anxiety/depression and decreased social functions. Double edged sword for sure.

Gotta keep the gut balanced by eating live foods everyday. Sauerkraut, kimchi etc for the probiotics.

Maybe ?

I’ve read that it’s a contributing factor to 67 different cancers.. sooo, drink heavy and you have a way higher chance of getting cancer.

Drank one can of beer on Spit Island after kiteboarding today. Don’t think I’m gonna drink any other alcohol tonight - just water with dinner right now.

If you have drunk heavily for years then decide to never drink again are you still at high risk of getting cancer?

Dunno for sure, but I would guess that the risk goes down just like anyone who quits smoking long term. IIRC it takes 14 years after quitting smoking for a smoker to drop down to the same risk of lung cancer as a non smoker.

Not sure about alcohol. It clears from the body much faster than cigarettes clear from the lungs. I’m sure the longer someone is a heavy drinker the more damage they do and the higher risk they are. Quitting at any point would make someone healthier and likely reduce cancer chances - by how much over what period of time I dunno. Maybe it hasn’t been studied and determined yet even.. but basic logic says quitting would be healthier for almost anyone.

Can 3.5 percent beer like bud light give you cancer?
