The insult "berk" - usually a mild insult that means a stupid or annoying person derives from Cockney rhyming slang. It's a shortened form of Berkeley Hunt, a very old hunt that rides out in Gloucestershire. You can probably work out for yourself what Berkeley Hunt might be rhyming slang for.

that inserting fingers between two 30kg steel bars while are you moving them is generally a stupid idea.

Luckily I have only one small cut, as gloves tanked most of the damage.
