It's a really bad cycle and it shows I have got a real problem.
How can you afford this? It's good you can acknowledge having a problem, though.
I may know I have a problem but i can't seem to find a way to solve the issue.
Often other people buy me and the others in my group drinks as well. Basically buying rounds.
Decline their offer ?
"No thanks, I've had my limit."
"I'm good, I have to drive soon."
"No thanks, I'm cutting back."
"Nah, enough for me, I have an early morning."
etc. Just because someone offers to pay for drinks doesn't mean you HAVE TO accept & drink them.
True but sitting there for hours without beer can be boring. Drinking is part of the fun of socialising in pubs for me personally.
Have you got an techniques I could use to drink my beer at a slower pace.
1. You could be somewhere else doing something else instead of spending hours in the pub, for one thing. Read a book, write a book, paint a picture, go for a bike ride, workout, cook, clean, go shopping, trip balls on psychedelics etc - plenty of other things to do with your time besides spend hours in the pub.
2. Drink something else so you've still got a drink in your hand but it isn't alcohol. When I finish my beer at the beach, I typically fill the can up with water from a glass bottle I refill with water and pack with me and drink water. If it's an IPA/flavoured beer, sometimes I fill it with water before the beer is empty so it's a bit flavoured. Lately I've been tossing the can aside and cracking open a bubly water (flavoured soda water) instead of carrying down a glass bottle of water. (We throw cans on the sand.. it's the only thing that isn't garbage -> can collectors are the bottom rung of the beach economy; they collect them for the 10 cent deposit.) I'll usually drink at Least the same amount of water as beer, but often double. Prevents getting dehydrated as alcohol will do, or drunk, yet keeps a drink in my hand alongside everyone else. Usually drink 2 at the beach as I did last night, Rarely a 3rd. Sometimes only 1 can - which is healthier and cheaper.

Had 2x 500ml bottles last night, fell asleep for a few hours, then 2 bottles this morning.

Had 3 cans at the beach last night + 3 cans of bubly waters. Should have kept it to 2 but I was there for longer and was still legal to ride the ~50km home. Coffee this morning, checking the weather, quite possibly loading gear in my car and going kiting - in which case I'll Likely have 1 can afterwards Unless one of these days it's the perfect time to go to the brew pub (to wait out traffic, or Just the right crowd is going and I Want to join them for dinner) - then I'll have a pint of something seasonal/limited batch.

I didn't always. It cost me money to learn.
I had a .05 ticket years ago.. cost me about $1200 or so. Then I got a 2nd one a year or so later and they threw the book at me as if I were well over the criminal limit (.08) which was bizarre to all involved but I had no choice but to pay for the tickets, tow, impound, 16h drinking driving counselling class, breathalyzer install, breathalyzer rental for 6 months, breathalyzer removal from my car etc etc which cost me ~$7000. If I had lied to the cops and said I wasn't drinking that day I'd have likely been fine, but I admitted to having a few cans earlier because I honestly didn't think there was any way I was over the limit.. buuuut, we have the lowest drinking driving limit in the world at 0.05% BAC sooo, f**k, it cost me 7 grand. Then for 5 years afterwards any cop can pull me over and breathalyze me at random. Only had it once a few years ago, but still, not interested in finding out how much it would cost me to ever have another .05 ticket soooo I make sure I'm legal to drive/ride almost always 24/7 because I Also don't like the idea of someone phoning me and wanting/needing me to go somewhere and I can't drive/ride because I'm drunk, soooo, even at home, it's very rare that I drink enough to be over the legal limit. Only have 1 or 2 and if any more it's over a long period of time.
Fine $/driving/riding licences are my motivation, but it's also an added bonus that it's both healthier for me And cheaper as my drinking habit only costs me like $60-70/mo, maybe 80-90 or so including drinks I give away to friends/family - especially since I almost never buy drinks at bars/pubs.. although I did buy ~8 this Summer and another few cans at the beach, so that cost me an extra $125ish or so but w/e peanuts compared to my hardcore alcoholic friends that drink 10-18 or so cans/day all Summer long. Waste of $/health etc IMO but they're all long term drunks.. at least they enjoy being at the beach in the Sunshine all summer vs. sitting at home drinking in their apartments I guess.

Ended up having 2 cans on the beach, a splash of whiskey, and then a 3rd can on the walk across campus to Brown's for dinner w/ some beach friends and a couple of tourists. Figured what the hell, I was there enough hours, and it's nearing the end of the Summer so whatever an extra beer and a dinner out isn't gonna kill me.

On the Magners again this morning. Was feeling better earlier so thought I might be able to stay off it but then got worse (very tight chest and anxiety) so started drinking.

Had 2 six year old cans of beer at the beach.
One was only 4%. Also had a little sip of whiskey.
Beers were in one of my kite gear bags in the garage for ~6 years. Didn’t even taste too off or anything. Kept cool vs in clear glass in the sun. Figured if they tasted okay why waste them ? And if they were gross I’d just pour them out.

Sorry I know I probably asked this already but how long do you make your beers last? I usually drink pints
Sounds like you were enjoying yourself.

Here are tequila prices here from our government stores: (3 pages)
https://www.bcliquorstores.com/product- ... esc&page=1
Some different brands available at private stores, but for the most part very similar prices.
So to get a dozen bottles at $29.99 here is CHEAP. And no, it's not worth buying South of the border and bringing back.. the tax is too high. We can only bring one bottle duty free after staying outside the country for 48 hours. So whenever people take a trip each adult typically brings back a bottle.
Bear in mind, 32.99 USD is 42 Canadian dollars. So maybe not quite so cheap. And that Classic Club Gold Tequila is probably rotgut.
EDIT yeah I revisited the BCLB site and yeah there's a big difference. 1.75l isn't even offered as a quantity, and you wouldn't be able to bring that across the border legally.

Depends, sometimes I drink a can in under 1/2 an hour, sometimes I sip it over an hour and a half or whatever. I was at the beach yesterday for about 6 hours. I had 2 cans of beer and a couple small sips of whiskey (less than 1/2 an ounce). I also drank ~5 cans of flavoured soda water and ate a couple small sandwiches I packed with me.
Sometimes I'm there for 6 hours and only drink 1 can or 1 tall can. Lately I've been drinking 2-3 and want to cut way back again.

It's cheap for you because Americans get paid in USD and spend USD, no currency conversion.
1.75L bottles of tequila are available here.
Casamigos Repasado is $202.99 + sales tax and deposit https://www.bcliquorstores.com/product/483722
El Jimador is $87.99 + sales tax and deposit https://www.bcliquorstores.com/product/410723 (El Jimador is actually pretty good - way better than Jose Cuervo, which is overpriced garbage much like Smirnoff Vodka is.)
Cazadores Repasado is $93.99 ++ https://www.bcliquorstores.com/product/58939
As long as it's declared it's legal to bring across the border. Sometimes people chance bringing a 60 and the border guards let it slide.. just depends on their mood in the moment and on how strict they're instructed to be in that moment. If lineups are really long, the threshold for the price of all goods people buy that they let just go up the road without collecting tax rises just to keep the lineups moving so they're not backed up for hours and hours. Most likely they'd just say "You're allowed one bottle after 48h, but just a reminder it's supposed to be 1L or less of spirits," or whatever. Unlikely they'll collect partial tax on it Or full tax on it Or make you abandon it etc. But still, Most people play it safe and don't go dramatically over the limit to ensure they don't gamble and lose because the excise tax is so high you may as well buy it at home.
