There's a Japanese superstition that really stupid and idiotic people are immune to colds. I remember it being mentioned a couple of times in a manga or an anime, but I never thought much about it until now when I came across it on TV Tropes.

I've heard characters in Western animation occasionally taunt someone who is too slow mentally and/or physically by saying "You couldn't catch a cold!", which I guess is kind of the same thing.

But one time I read a snarky quote in a book that implied the exact opposite. "Germs always attack you where you're weakest, which explains why there are so many head colds".

^^That's quite interesting, and also kind of sad.

I just learned what the ^ symbol was used for on the Internet. Thank you, Kura, fellow friend of cats!

^You're welcome. Another handy thing to do is put the poster's name that you're talking to at the start of your message, so that you can respond to more than one person at once if you need to.

IstominFan: As an example.

Apparently so many people have thought wrongly that Africa is a country and not a continent that a children's book entitled AFRICA IS NOT A COUNTRY was actually made.

And that low intelligence=cold immunity I mentioned earlier? If it was actually true, then my mother shouldn't know how to even count to 10 while my dad would be out winning chess tournaments. He has COPD, which makes them a lot worse. :(

My brother told me today that when Alex Graham Bell invented the telephone, he didn't like it much because of all the things it did that have annoyed people to this very day - interrupting whatever you're doing by constantly ringing. My brother also said that Mr. Bell wanted people to greet each other on the phone by saying "Ahoy-hoy" instead of "Hello".

I remember Mr. Burns on the Simpsons sometimes saying "Ahoy-hoy" when he answered the phone, so now that makes sense. My brother said I should try it next time, but I'm worried the caller will think I'm really weird, or that I'm a sailor.

I also learned earlier that "Rockin' Kats", an NES Mario-esque game where a cat named Willy is trying to save his girlfriend from mafia-type dogs in a New York setting, had an even lamer or funnier name in Japan: New York Nyankees. It's because "nyan" is the Japanese language word for "meow". :cat:

old plastic electric fans [if they are hollow-body] are in danger of catastrophic collapse, as the plastic deteriorates over time, it starts losing its molecular integrity and crumbles into bits.

Pokemon was almost called 'Capsule Monsters' very early in the game designs.

I decided to watch Animaniacs with my daughter and I learned in the very first episode about Dot, Yakko, and Wakko their history and how they ended up in the water tower in the first place.

I learned that it is often easier to write characters whom you have known for years than characters you've just recently met.
