Pepperoni, sausage, ham, beef, cheese, pineapple, and black (ripe) olives. No onions or green peppers (as they both give me terrible heartburn), and no anchovies (Yuck!)

Pineapple does not belong on pizza.
Nor does chicken in any form.
And ONLY mozzarella cheese belongs on a pizza.

Seriously, some of the things people put on dough, cover with any cheese and call a pizza is appalling.

I like a nice traditional pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms, sausage, sometimes onions & green peppers, maybe ham or bacon.
That's it. That's what a REAL pizza is.

Anything else is just a round piece of bread with stuff baked on top.

You'd be disagreeing with the Italians over the Pizza quattro formaggi, then?

The biggest difference I've noticed is the base. Pizza I've eaten in Italy has been made on a thin, fairly light base. As you say, they're also quite sparing with the toppings, but the ingredients are so nice and so carefully combined that the flavours really come through.

Pizza in the UK generally comes on a huge slab of stodgy bread, and that's the dominant part of the meal no matter how many toppings are added. Lacks all the subtlety of the genuine article.

i can not see how that term could have arisen.

there are many US words which are different from australian words, and i am aware of many, but the list is almost endless i guess.

example:
aus: pram = US:stroller
aus :jelly= US:jello
aus: jam = US:jelly
aus: bonnet = US:hood
aus: boot= US:trunk
aus: petrol = US: gas
aus: gas= us ...??? propane, methane etc.

anyway there are a million of them and i will not derail the thread.

i watch lots of foreign cooking shows. :shrug:

pancakes and crepes are made with a plain flour base. pikelets are made with a self raising flour base. As scones have a similar base set of ibgredients, i can only guess that that is why they are known as drop scones.

also strollers and prams are differant things although in australia lots of strollers get the generic labelling of pram. most americans call prams buggies but use the generic name stroller as the generic term.
