An online Christmas party?
Again just an idea. It's up to Kit, and by no means would Kit need to be present and online the entire time if she's busy with her family.
That sounds reasonable, Issy.

Yes I'm hoping people will just socialise and I won't have to be keeping an eye on them, well I don't intend to anyway.
Be aware people, my family is two other people, I don't have anyone else, it's not like I'll be having a fun time with lots of friends and family. Hence why I suggested an online party. I wasn't trying to point the finger at people who don't have any family at all.

No worries, KitLily.

Boxing Day I'm usually in a coma, getting ready for the birthdays.
I don't know where I will be or what will happen in that period.
I usually go to Mass on Christmas Eve.
Last year people turned around to exchange a sign of peace, obviously with the "Covid" rules so no one touched anyone else's hand.
There was a nod.
I was very uncomfortable, there was even the TV recording.
And the backup singers, one of whom has an intonation that is annoying for me.
As for the party, and for those who are interested, you could extend it to January 6, 2024.
I remember that in another forum people had written greetings rather than Merry Christmas, but Happy Holidays.
In order to make everyone feel involved.
One of my contacts is Asperger and he is an Orthodox priest, for him it is Saint Spiridon, I remember that I wished him a happy birthday and he replied like this.
Orthodox Christmas arrives I believe a month after the Christian one.
Here in the city they organize for Halloween and the hypermarkets are already full of sweets for Christmas which is in 55 days.
Strange contrast.
*For @KitLily, maybe if you extend it by a few days you will have the opportunity to have more participants.
Ultimately, Christmas is a Celebration of an Event, that is, the temporal beginning of a very intense Spiritual event which only has its genesis on December 25th and not a sort of beginning and end.
At least in Italy it works like this, then people are increasingly alone now, traditional families consist of a maximum of three individuals.

Sorry, I quoted this post because it belongs to me in various of its passages and mentions, although it is composed of only two lines, it expresses three thousand of my word.

Christmas is actually observed for 12 days from 25th December until Twelfth Night, which is the eve of Eastern Orthodox Christmas on 6th January. Hence, "The Twelve Days of Christmas".
I'm pretty sure Kit was looking for something open-ended which could include Hanukkah and Orthodox Christmas, even though Hanukkah's earlier.
Kit can choose the date and keep it open for a few days for people to celebrate and be together at an often-lonely time of year, regardless of their faith (or lack thereof). I picture it having a Haven vibe.
The important thing is that I hope there will be good cheer and companionship rather than any of the tensions we sometimes feel in our online activity.
I look forward to it and I think it was a brilliant idea.
Thanks, Kit. ![]()

Do you mean the online party or real life?
Hi KitLily: I mean your idea here on the forum.
Extend it to even more days.
Usually at Christmas the forums are depopulated.
But in the following days many reappear!

Thanks for your clarifications.
Think it coincides with the end of the Italian holidays on January 6th.
Yes: talking pleasantly and in a relaxed manner is very important.
Sometimes the threads are too "heavy", in Milanese one would say (Menosi!)"less", now I tried to translate that term!
Who knows what comes out!

i think a Christmas party thread could technically go on until new years, as the days following are usually festive in one way or another

Well summarised Isabella. Thank you
We will have a Christmas party from 23rd December to 6th January. That is two weeks and gets us over the festive period.
I often feel very miserable over Christmas because everything stops, goes quiet, it's like being suspended in fog. I have often been in floods of tears over the Christmas period because during that time I can stop being strong, brave, holding everyone together, keeping up a front. I can relax, let go, and often all the pent up emotions come flooding out.
The worst years were the pandemic ones (even though the 5 years my daughter was desperately ill were horrific too). I had been so strong and brave, holding together my anxious daughter and husband, being the strong one (as usual) for so many months. So when everything stopped at Christmas, we were all at home and I flopped and fell apart. My daughter was studying for her end of school exams during the pandemic, she was extremely anxious and tried to kill herself. My husband (a nurse) had a nervous breakdown for obvious reasons one year. But little old me had to hold them together because there isn't anyone else.
These days I write a long fanfiction over Christmas to get me through those long, dark, cold days when everything is in suspended animation.
It's not all a bed of roses being the strong one holding the family together. Because if I don't do it, who will? No one. So fun times are needed in the dark, cold season.

You'll see I decided on 23rd December- 6th January, I hope that's helpful?
I'd rather have different threads because then each one would be a fresh start with a new theme. e.g. an Easter one with a springtime theme, a summer one with a beach theme, an autumn one with a harvest theme.
