i didnt mind torrent sites getting blocked, i dont mind them making me opt in if i want to be able to view porn ( im perfectly happy to leave it blocked), but now they block tv streaming sites? f*** sake.

someone put it right on a news site.

Quote:
They bother because it's the cumulative effect of creeping censorship. Start off with everything people agree is bad - child porn sites etc, then move on to things that can be portrayed as morally bad (torrent sites), and as that list starts to grow and people start getting bored with keeping an eye on it we will slowly start to get sites that "corrupt the youth" being banned. The Uk is fast becoming a cyber-province of the Great Firewall.

dont they know that any content released is lost to the internet the moment they release it? get the f*** with the program tv exec media ret*ds. theyre hanging on to pre internet times when they could fleece us, dont they think they ripped us off for long enough?

i hope we go back to times when the only way for musicians and etc to make money is through touring zillions of dates ( with live music being the only thing the internet cant replace) and working every night the way every one else does. And the movie business should be selling the experience of going to the movies (which no amount of internet can replace), not trying to make as much out of every lousy film.

Actor and musician idiots had their day in the sun, when people actually took the words of actors and musicians over world leaders even though all they do is sing songs and play make believe, now its time for them to lose their extreme amount of influence and go back to the days when they were just a silly waste of time profession.

And we might actually start getting people that are involved in those industries for the love of what they're doing instead of the attention seekers that seem to be the norm right now.

I bought a new Chinese mini drill press for $100. It vibrates violently on the highest speed (2500rpm). I wish good tools and machines weren't so expensive.

Two of my favorite songs that I associate with some of my special interests have been taken off of youtube.

(They're called "Ligger Med Varandra" and "Jenny's Vinter", both by DJ Auzern.)

I remember, to the day, when I chose music over my then boyfriend. I was working full times a sa nurse. Couple all that with travelling to and from work and I had little time for myself. I had to make a choice. I chose the music. I was young but I thought I was talent and had a chance of making it.

There were too many things working against me. I couldn't sing, I had Asperger's, I was shy, I can't stand crowds, I barely looked people in the eye, I had stage fright, etc. Those were signs I shouldn't have ignored. I should've dumped the musical aspirations. Stubbornly, I kept with it for years. I stopped now because I am a failure at it.

Now I've lost 20 years to drinking and drugging. I wish I could get those years back and try again. Too late now. I'm in the twilight of my life. My train came and I missed it. There were good times and bad times, mostly bad times. I'm in limbo right now and will be for about 3 or 4 more months. Hopefully then I'll get my creative juices back and maybe even look into getting into a relationship.

it was a debacle of an extemporaneous nature which befell me yesterday.

situation:
on thursday @ 7pm, there were severe super-cell thunderstorms that rolled over my area, and there were spectacular lightning strikes and deafening thunderclaps, and torrential rain poured down, and i very much liked what was happening. there were a few electrical "brown out's" and also 2 short blackouts during the mayhem. i tracked the storms using the radar (except during the few minutes of the blackouts), and i was very well occupied in a happy and content but excited way.

after the storms had passed, i started to play my current video game (far cry 3 (for the second time)) , and after a few hours, i decided to check something on the internet, but i got a "gateway" error.

so i looked at my modem (i have adsl (which uses the telephone socket)) and i noticed that the "telephone" light was not on, and so i realized that my telephone line was dead.
i unplugged the splitter and plugged the telephone directly into the wall socket and i had no dial tone, so i knew that my phone line was dead. i do not care about the telephone, but i very much wanted to get back on to the internet.

i considered that the problem was most likely related to the thunderstorms earlier in the evening, and i suspected that even though i did not lose connectivity during the storms, major auxilliary infrastructure may have been damaged during the event, and they chose 11pm to cut the phone service to repair the infrastructure damage.

armed with this preconception, i rang telstra (a major australian telecommunications company who provides my phone and internet) , and there the first real problem began.

i was answered by an automated telephone system which tried to analyze the nature of my problem using only basic questions, and there was no chance of me describing my problem to the machine, so i hung up and dialed again (from my mobile phone at a cost of $1.00 per minute) and when i was asked by the machine to say in a few words, the nature of my problem, i said "operator".

the automated system thankfully understood that i wanted to speak to a human and i was placed in a queue for 20 minutes ($20).

when i was finally answered, it was by some girl in the phillipines who i am sure had little concern for my plight. telstra outsources their telephone operators to countries who can not speak english and will toil all day for a bowl of rice.
the filipino operators are taught a set of stock phrases by english speaking recruiters, and all they know of english is a crude set of common problems, and the dialogue that is to be expected pertaining to those problems.
the following dialogue took place

operator: hello how can i help you?

me: can you check the status of the landline telephone connectivity in "wentworth falls" postcode 2785?

operator: ahhh sorry. are you having problem with internet or phone?

me: (stupidly played) well it is with my internet, but i suspect it is because of my phone line.

operator: ahh sorry. internet or phone?

me: phone.

operator: whah your telephone number?

me: [recited landline telephone]

operator: whah your customer number?

me: i do not think that there is a local fault peculiar to my address. i think there may be an area wide blackout

operator: sorry i need your customer number
me: i do not know my customer number. i just gave you my telephone number! you should have access to my customer number!

operator: ok. you please hold for 5 minutes while i check
me: no no no no!! !. i want you to check if my area is blacked out before you check whether my house is incorrectly wired.

operator: sorry i do not understand sir.
me: i am wasting money talking to you! can you please connect me to your superior?

operator: sorry i do not understand

me: phhhhhhhh. (hang up)

______________
cutting to the chase, i discovered that it was an area wide problem, and i was told that the problem would be rectified by the 27th november

so i had to buy a new wireless modem in order to not be amputated from the body of the internet
and my internet provider will still charge me the full monthly fee, and moreover, they will not reimburse me for having to buy a wireless modem (that is a prepaid little USB stick that allows me 3 gigs of interaction).

i may as well be living on europa

One of the toilets in my house is still not working. Beside s, it is 14 degrees outside, and that is a brain freeze for me.

My droid 4 cant get the micro SD card to mount. It was the 1st 32G micro SD card that came out that was class 10 speed & I bought it rite after it came out for about $100. I had problems with it 6months ago & had to put it in a computer & reformat. It 1st got screwed up when I was trying to upgrade or downgrade my phone's rom(which is like it's OS) after I upgraded it the way I was supposed to & couldn't fix some bugs. I was never able to upgrade it or downgrade it & screwed up the boot & when I turn it on I have to hold the power & both volume buttons & then press the volume up button to select normal boot. I might try formatting the card in a computer again soon & then try upgrading the rom again. I bought my girlfriend one with the same specs that was SanDisk brand afew months ago(the one I bought was a different brand that I don't remember) & so for she hasn't had any problems with it. I checked my order history on Amazon for it & can get it for $23.50 which is cheaper than her's was. I think I'll buy it soon so I can have it when I take a trip down to Louisiana to see my family; I'll be gone for about 3 weeks. It's possible the one I've been using will work fine after the reformat if I can upgrade my phone's rom but at this point I'd feel safer having a new one & just using the current for upgrading or other messing with my phone.
