I wish I could display stuff direct from my puter, on WP.

It's just trying to make sure you're a human and not a spambot, with the implication being that spambots can't bypass captchas... which I don't think is the case.

But yeah, I think when Alex was choosing a CAPTCHA system, he could have chosen one that didn't say that, especially with the implications the word "robot" has here.

But it's bloody annoying. I mean, how many MANY time do I have to prove I'm not a robot?

Sometimes, you get the answer right and it gives you the tick and it still throws you back into edit mode, sometimes with what you've just typed disappears.

Sometimes, it won't let you post at all and you just keep trying to post and it won't let you get past that.

It's a defective system and we're all getting tired of it.

Find something better!

That's why you submit your post, hit the "back" button, hit submit again, and it works 99.9% of the time. It's not rocket science, but it is annoying. I've only had it glitch up and erase what I was going to post, and that was earlier on today, but I was able to recover it simply by hitting the "back" button a couple of times.

For whatever reason, multiquoting, or quotes within quotes, really seem to trigger it. Multi paragraph posts do too.

And yes, I do seriously think Alex needs to find a different anti-DDoS system, one that doesn't get confused so easily. I don't think it's the CAPTCHA system's fault that so many users are being mistaken for spambots, though it's certainly not keeping the actual spambots out. The CAPTCHAs are annoying to solve, sure, but they're not the reason why you're seeing them in the first place; the faulty anti-DDoS system is.

I do hit the back button.

I've also had to resort to highlighting all I've typed and stick it in the windows clipboard, so I can just paste it all back in.

Don't insult my intelligence. I know it's not rocket surgery.

My point is, WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BE COMPENSATING FOR A DEFECTIVE SYSTEM!

What appears to be rocket science is them getting it right!! !

Dedicated Denial Of Service? Ha - it's not going to stop that. That works on IP addresses and is executed externally. It's got nothing to do with posting.

Do you even know what you're talking about.

DDOS's works on taking a site down by tying up all of its available connections. It's got nothing to do with posting spam.

Yeah, I was thinking it was for dos prevention before for some reason, which really doesn't make sense, but you're right, it's definitely an anti spam measure. It definitely does not stop spam, and it definitely is very broken... Actually there are so many things on this site which are broken it's really annoying. I really wish they would just use Discourse or something instead of this crappy setup.

No, No. You've got it all wrong. Vint Cerf, Bob Kahn and Jon Postel got it right.

The seven layer stack never gets it wrong. Each layer works independently and never messes up!

TCP/IP is the ruler!
The Internet works flawlessly. The protocols see to that.

It's the user who gets it wrong!

The layers are only therhetorical and our Internet actually works on a 4 layer standard

Some days, I feel like I belong in a psychiatric ward. My e-commerce teacher threatened this to me once; perhaps she is right. :(

I know. I'm sorry.

mr_bigmouth_502 is actually on my list of friends but I can't stand people sprouting off about and standing up for things they don't even understand themselves.

Forgive my meltdown - But I know this stuff, inside out and it really p!sses me off when someone who knows nothing about it defends it and tries to use terms they've heard and don't even know what they mean!

People should read more, and then perhaps, they'll have the knowledge to know what their saying in their post!

I get it, the CAPTCHA is what pisses everyone off, but what I was trying to say is that it's Cloudflare's anti-DDoS technology that's triggering it, at least from my observations. Having to work around it annoys me too, in fact if I had any Javascript coding experience, I'd consider making a Greasemonkey script to get around it. Then again, such a script may end up being used by the spammers. I don't know, I'd probably have to talk to Alex about it.

How funny, a post about bypassing Cloudflare verifications doesn't ring any alarms, yet a multi-paragraph post, or a post with a lot of quotes in it, will. Just goes to show how "intelligent" it is.

Also, as evidenced by the number of spambots that are here, CloudFlare clearly isn't doing its job. I think a different anti-DDoS system is in order. I don't know how well it actually protects against denial of service attacks, but I don't want to risk trouble to try and see. Maybe someone could post a groundbreaking thread that makes it to Slashdot, and then we'll get one in the form of "the Slashdot effect".

It is auntblabby. TCP/IP is so complex and yet it works so flawlessly, people don't even know about it.

They send an email, they search the Web and no one knows about it. It's working hard behind the scene and the reason no one knows about TCP/IP is because it works so well.

I could tell you about rerouting, packet nondelivery, time to live, border gateway protocol, ICMP packets, all that stuff but it'd be too much for you.
