Much like my relic of a cell phone, I think my avatar will be around for years to come. I don't think I would recognize myself otherwise. 8)

I didn't make $9.75 in high school till near the end. 5 years of work equaled $2.50 in raises.

Oh okay, makes sense. My high school job was supposed to give us raises every 6 months, but I think they found ways around it. They did offer to train me for management (which would have given me a raise) but two years there was enough to last a lifetime.

I feel like I'll start getting PTSD in my 40's from that job. I was forced into it at 14 when I was in 8th grade. My dad was the stores manager at the time.

Or someone is smoking marijuana outside your window, happens a lot where I live except my neighbor is on crack.

My first job was at McDonald's...'nuff said
I can see how it would suck to work for your dad, especially at 14 (which is a crappy age to be).

Recently was viewing a documentary about the evolution of horror movies from 1922's "Nosferatu" to modern films like Insidious 3,Conjuring, etc. I found it thought provoking in that it's not easy to actually scare audience members these days since most people are able to pick up on things in a subtle manner therefore, directors have to be more creative.

*moment of silence*

I worked at a regional grocery store, very strict attire and personal grooming, had to bag and carry out groceries for customers, felt like a cultural stronghold from the 50's. After two years in the gulag though I moved into the Dairy department and basically got to skulk in the cooler a lot instead of being a slave to the customers. The only good thing from all that was having 5 years of work experience to put on applications.

Feyokien, I've worked in the food commerce industry myself along time back and remember how I was never fond of such..

one night decades ago, I was working as a janitor in a department store, and as I was sweeping up in one of the bathroom stalls, I noticed that somebody put their dookie on the floor outside the toilet bowl. as I bent down to pick it up, I noticed that there was a pricetag on it, ".29 cents." ah, those were the days of low cost of living and pooping.

That first role must have left a lot of room for small talk ( :eew: ) from customers.
Our grocery store offers to help you out to your car, and I always found it strange how many people accept. I surprised myself by agreeing to it once (my best attempt at flirting, I guess) and then regretted it once realizing it might be considered rude that I wasn't making conversation.
5 years at one employer is a great resume booster!
