Seriously, there is nothing wrong with being vegetarian/vegan.

Personally, I am a lacto-vegetarian and I have received enough criticism from meat-eaters to last me a lifetime. I can be mature about it if they can. But the minute people start passing judgements about my food choice, well then, lets just say there is a reason I became vegetarian. I may not scare them into it, but I can certainly ruin all their eating for the day.

Point is, I don't mind answering questions, really. However,I don't need to be told it is against my religion or that animals were put here to eat or how I need protein or how it will ruin my life socially. I've been vegetarian since I was 12, it's not just a fad that I picked up as a kid (as I know so many children/teenagers do/have done/will do) it is a part of me and it is a lifelong lifestyle choice.

Oh, and a personal pet peeve of mine:

Making me a vegetarian/vegan dinner without telling me and then expecting me to eat it.
I am also picky along with being lacto-vegetarian.
There are things I don't want to eat, my parents don't even know everything.
But I do.
If you want to make food for me, you need to call me afore and tell me every single last ingredient or else I refuse to eat it.
It is a nice gesture if I am secure in what I am eating....unfortunately, I don't trust others to. Something as simple as vegetable soup can have meat without the person knowing.
I have gotten in trouble with family for not eating foods they have prepared with me in mind....but that's also my choice. If I don't feel comfortable, I will NOT eat it.

People are welcome to do whatever they want in their life, I hate the vegetarians who act like eating animals is such a grave sin and we're not worth respecting because we do it.

Pit bulls are loving and gentle creatures, they just have a bad reputation because they are chosen for dog fights. I have had three pit bulls in my life, and they were all wonderful dogs.

Anyone else have a real problem with vegetarians. They seem to be so high and mighty and who are they to tell us we cant eat meat. If people could not eat meat how would the Eskimos in Alaska survive. Im a meat eater and dont go preaching meat eating as the ultimate so then why should vegetarians.

You seem to have a real problem with vegetarians for the same reason you are accusing them of (having a problem with meateaters). Isn't that a double standard to lump all people together in one group and say you dislike them? I am a vegetarian. I do not tell people not to eat meat, nor do I look down on them. I also like you more than I like myself and I don't even know you, so I am definitely not "so high and mighty". It's good to know you don't like me for being a vegetarian though.

I haven't eaten a banana in a month, but you don't see me bragging about it.

I respect their choice to not eat meat as long as they respect my choice to eat meat.
I haven't met a lot of vegetarians in my life, but the ones I do come across are pretty cool. Most of them don't eat meat either because of their religion or health issues, so they don't lecture me about how I'm a murderer for eating animals.

I haven't had a banana for months as they're expensive at the moment.

I just think being vegetarian is more of a weakness than a trait. You are actually closingthe door to things you can eat. Vegetarianism is healthier? That's debatable, I once lost almost 40 kilograms with a diet and I could eat all the meat I wanted (It was not Atkins, I got to eat plenty of veggies as well) It was great, but hard to keep, since it required a lot of home cooked food. I felt great at that time.

I respect, vegetarians, as long as the do it because they don't like meat. I don't like fish or seafood, but i don't make a fuzz about it or think it's a special diet. But the thing is a lot of vegetarians think they are better than other people and that's annoying. I like to point out to those people that Hitler was a vegetarian. I know it's a fallacy, but so are a lot of things they say. Vegetarianism doesn't protect animal rights either. Millions of animals die for the sake of crop protection, insects, birds, badgers, moles, rabbits, hares, rats. Not because there isn't a dead animal on your plate it means your veggies aren't murder as well.

My former german teacher was a vegetarian because she hated the taste of meat. I could have a burger during the break and that was ok with her. She didn't went crazy or anything. She never mentioned anything about animal rights or all that fake crap. She was pretty cool. I respected her and her vegetarianism.

So, in a nutshell. Vegetarianism is ok as long as you are not a hollier-than-thou hippy treehugger hipster.

Yea, but sometimes people think you are being picky if you don't eat meat just because it grosses you out. I don't eat it for that and many other reasons. It changes for every person and audience because I have to please everyone. :| But the fact is still true that I chose to be a vege to benefit me...not to be better than another person.

They were the first group of PC nutters.

They have since been joined by millions of other silly, false causes.

currently, I only eat vegetarian 2 days of the week, but I'm hoping to expand that to 4.

It is healthy for you and the environment, though unless you have some moral objections, I don't get why anyone would cut themselves off from meat. It's so delicious and its inclusion in ones diet makes for a full, richer, and tasty life.

but yea, my current plan is to move it to 4 days completely vegetarian, with the exception of the 4th day, wherein I will also include fish. I will then have two days to enjoy amazing bbq, ribs, steaks, chicken, and all the pulled pork my little heart could desire.

I hate preachy people, regardless of what they're trying to force on me. There are many reasons for vegetarianism though, and who is to say what is stupid or wrong anyway?

And to answer the original post, if we couldn't eat meat there would be no Inuit to begin with. ;) Or maybe they could store food that could be grown during the light season...?

I tried to give meat up but if you're used to getting meat protein.. It's hard to replace with vegetarian protein. They are not the same. I never liked the texture but got used to eating it so I sort of crave for meat if I go long time without eating meat now.

I gave it up when I was on liquid food only (had too.. wouldn't go through the tiny straw even after it was blended). Now, I pulled some fresh meat out to cook and wanted to vomit at the smell. I had ot ask people if it was spoiled... "nope, it's fine... just smells like meat. " Yeah... like a rotting corpse of a deceased animal.

It's not the same as far as flavor and texture, but you CAN get complete proteins and other nutrients from vegetarian sources, easily and much cheaper than meat. Much healthier too. It sort of helped me satiate that meat craving as well. I still eat meat sometimes though, espeically if someone else has gone to the trouble of cooking it. But even before I reduced my corpse intake, I found certain vegetarian burgers (or maybe it was some falafel) was so much better than a grilled burger!
