Why are people so stupid to get behind the wheel after they drink? I've heard the claim that the U.S drinking age is 21 rather than 18 because of drunk driving accidents, but really 21 is not high enough. There are people of all ages that get behind the wheel after they drink.

Alcohol makes your judgment worse. That's why people get behind the wheel when they are drunk.

As for making the drinking age higher, that's ridiculous. If anything it needs to be lower. It's not that hard to get alcohol underage anyway. A law isn't going to stop anyone only make people want to drink even more.

I agree with bury. Our drinking age is 19.

If you want to drink and drive, you're going to be stupid enough to drink and drive. Doesn't matter the age.

I only drink at home. I will not drive if I have had even one drink.

But here's a question for you.

America says you are a full adult at the age of 18 but you can't drink till you are 21.

Is this Constitutional? How can you legally deny an adult a right based upon age?

Can there be a law that says "people over 60 aren't allowed to drive"?

I know someone who one day just woke up in the hospital. They told him he had been in an accident while driving. They had found alcohol in his blood. He did not recall anything.

The police suspended his license for some time. When they wanted to give him back his license, he would not take it. He told me, that if he can be stupid enough to drink and drive, then it would be safest not to have the license or own a car.

Good for him. It's great that someone can actually realise it is THEIR problem and not someone else's. I had a neighbour (complete d***head) who would regularly binge on god knows what and go out in his car. He crashed the first time, spent like half a year without a liscence, then reapplied. A few months later he got p****d again and drove onto a roundabout. Once again, waited a while, then reapplied. Where's the justice in that? He could have killed someone. I too don't drink at all and I am proud of it.

There could be, but some of the people I know wouldn't like it. half my teachers are over 60 and my grandparents are in their 70s. Both drive very well. There is even a member of our church's congregation who is 103 and drives. He is in very good health with no signs of deterioration.

Age is irrellevant.I have noticed and family friends who are police officers (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) say they arrest more older middle aged people drinking and driving than they do young people. They say that many young people are smart enough to get a designated driver or take a cab or a ride or walk...The older generation is harder to get to since they never had the education about the risks and such when they were in school.Nowadays, schools educate young people about the risks of drinking and driving.
