Sometimes I wonder if the artists of some of those statues weren't just getting a little humor out of their work. Perhaps the public took them creatively serious just as most do with modern art.

Some sculptor here in NC (who didn't like Jesse Helms; former senator, also known as 'Senator No') was actually commissioned to do a bronze statue of him. She remained faithful, until someone noticed a bronze cockroach molded to his posterior. It had to be sanded off.
That grave of the guy in the Paris cemetery has a history to it; he was some sort of political activist, and was hung (as in killed by rope as well), and the mold made of his body while it was, er...upright.
A local legend states that if a woman uh...hangs around the statue, overnight, that it can cure infertility. I'm not making this up...women have actually tried it. No word on whether it works or not, tho...

What were they thinking to allow those statues to be shown in public?
When those statues were made people's minds weren't as warped as they are today.

Very funny, it made me smile. As this is a "family show" I will not comment on what acts the staues seem to be doing.
