they're near your mouth probably between your mouth and chin closer to your lip but not quite.

They're very small and barely visible unless you get up close in the mirror. You squeeze it and this very thin snake-like material comes out in one string.

My understanding is that if the stuff coming out is completely white, it's a whitehead.
If the stuff is dark at the end closest to the skin, or off-white overall, it's a blackhead.
They're very similar, though.

I hate those too! lol. (And the ones just around your lips, so irritating.)

And yeah, they're just whiteheads. But surely a more creative name could be used.

food/chapstick or whatever left on your lips just forms little deposit's in your skin, they're generally harmless, but fun to pick.

I think you mean blackheads? Whiteheads are similar, except that a layer of cells is over the pore and as it doesn't come in contact with the air, it remains white. I get them everywhere, as I have VERY oily skin. And they are NOT caused by lack of hygiene or anything. Just that the pores clog, and as the sebum oxidizes, it gives it a dark color, as the stuff that comes out is white or yellowish. I wouldn't bother doing anything about it. I've tried EVERYTHING and nothing works. It just dries out my skin completely. The most you can do is try to keep the pores empty using strips or like applying pressure to get the 'string' out.
