I'm wondering if anyone else experiences intrusive thoughts that are disturbing?

Often when I'm laying in bed trying to get to sleep, images pop into my head that are very disturbing and very hard to dismiss. I can't just will them away by thinking of something pleasant. When I do, the disturbing images keep coming back.

can't wait for my prozac to start working.

By disturbing image, do you mean something like the "Demon Face" from the movie "The Exorcist"? Could you give an example please?

I don't really have disturbing images in bed when I'm trying to sleep. Usually I have a chain of thoughts that somehow skip any uncomfortable imagery, or I think about conversations that I had with people during the day.

I do know that when I'm studying and I feel really drowzy from substantial lack of sleep, I have tons of random thoughts in my mind, some which may be inappropriate if I were to tell others.

Sometimes I get thoughts and images that are violent or otherwise inappropriate - let's just say that I wouldn't want to go into detail expressing them to others! However, the images / thoughts don't usually bother me because I ignore them. They drift into my consciousness then drift out again, no harm done.

I get that sort of thing. Like you, often as I am tying to go to bed. I get stong images of violence in my head. Sometimes involving someone I have had an argument with during the day, sometimes someone from my past. When I was younger I used to see images of my pet rabbits dead. I've never acted on them, but they do really disturb me. Prozac didn't work for me thoug.

In my opinion it is better to just ignore the thoughts and images - no matter how graphically violent or psychotic they seem. By dwelling on them or worrying about them you just give them strength. Just acknowledge to yourself that nasty thoughts / images have occurred but don't get upset or dwell on it. Ignored they wither away. Just like scenes from a horror movie, they come and are gone. I doubt any medication will help in a useful way other than to mess up your thoughts further.

Sometimes I can be talking to a boring person and an image pops into my mind of me beating the crap out of them or knifing them! However, I ignore the image and say "That's interesting, do continue". Somewhat hypocritical but more socially acceptable.
