I don't know if this is strange or if others do the same thing. Anyone only buys gifts for their parents for those who aren't married?
For those who are married, do you only buy gifts for your spouse and children?

For some reason few years ago my aunt (dad's sister) says no more gift exchanges. So now I just buy gifts for my parents. I don't have any children, and I don't have a boyfriend at all. Is this strange? I thought families get together around Christmas, sing songs, go to church, eat dinner and open presents. We never bought any gifts for anyone on mom's side of the family. From what I hear Koreans don't really do gift exchanges. Dad's family live in another state, but it's close to where my parents and I live.

My hubby and I exchanged afew gifts this year and of course got afew new toys for our two dogs (no kids). Everyone "back home" got cookies from us and both moms also got jewelry.

I guess it just depends on the family. We got gifts from just about everyone on his side. My mom was the only one to send us something from my side of the family. Infact we got a phone call from everyone on his side, and dead silence from my side except for my mom who texted me to say Merry Christmas.

I exchange gifts with my immediate family.

No one on mom's side whether they still live in Seoul Korea, or in Seattle, called us to wish us Merry Christmas or Happy New Year. Never received cards from anyone on mom's side.

Dad's side I always get Christmas cards either mailed to me or given in person when we go visit dad's family. Well by not exchanging gifts, in a way I save more money. When you say immediate family, do you mean just your siblings and parents? Do you buy gifts for your aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents? I have no siblings. I just think it's strange that my aunt says no more gift exchanges. My aunt bought gifts for her daughter and grandkids, but that's about it.
