I think the best way to do it is to give each letter it's numbered position in the alphabet so I can just count down from 26 to 1, but for me to remember each letter & number I will need an association, so this is what I have so far.

A - 1 -
B - 2 -
C - 3 -
D - 4 -
E - 5 -
F - 6 -
G - 7 -
H - 8 -
I - 9 -
J - 10 -
K - 11 -
L - 12 -
M - 13 -
N - 14 -
O - 15 -
P - 16 -
Q - 17 -
R - 18 - I remember R18, a rating for adult movies in Australia
S - 19 -
T - 20 -
U - 21 - If you're 21 you're no longer underage (in the US)
V - 22 -
W - 23 -
X - 24 -
Y - 25 -
Z - 26 -

I could probably think of some more but, could you guys help me out? I want to try it as a kind of memory experiment.

I learned to recite the alphabet backwards by writing it down and reading it backwards. I did that over and over until I had it memorized.

The psychology textbook had a few paragraphs about this. Its recommendation was to associate:
1 with bun
2 with shoe
3 with tree
4 with door
5 with beehive (I always forget that one for some reason)
6 with sticks
7 with heaven
8 with gate
9 with swine
10 with hen
...aw man I guess 11 would have to be Kevin or something. The book stopped at 10

Interesting idea, sefer.

I'm sure I have taken a few timed aptitude tests before that have involved assigning numbers to letters of the alphabet, and I always have to waste time counting them out with my fingers.

I always remember M is 13. I guess A, B, C and D are pretty easy to remember.

Even so, if you want a way to remeber A-1 (for completeness) you could note that A-1 is an expression meaning first class.

Looking at that list, you could perhaps find a link between Kicking-K (that's how I remembered K when I was learning to read) and Legs-11 (the Bingo call).

The G7 are a group of industrialized countries (not to be confused with the G8, who are the G7 plus Russia).

H8 is text speak for hate!

(I'm running out of ideas now.)

And if it's any help, I might also point out that some words are sort of symmetrical, such as WIZARD (W+D=I+R=Z+A=27) and BY (B+Y=27), as Martin Gardner once pointed out in Scientific American magazine.

Image is the Office of Film and Literature Classification's version of the BBFC's Image certificate in the UK.

The UK has a special Image certificate for hardcore porn films.

I just did it in my head. I started backtracking from Z, trying to remember the song, and then eventually I could do it seamlessly. Nothing to it.

in america it is NC-17 [no children 17 or younger which really means nobody under 18 if you read it carefully]. in england/australia the standards are far more lenient for sex and language but much less lenient when it comes to violence, i have found.
