We enjoyed the 60's and 80's Appreciation threads, but the the 70's begs to be heard from. It is the decade which is usually unappreciated, so it needs your support. If you need help, check Wikipedia for ideas. I will start us off:

Steely Dan- My nominee for best music to be produced during the 70's. (Actually my favorite of all time.) I was going to post a video, but I can't decide which song I like best. They're all great.

See what I mean at this link:

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_q ... arch_type=

Star Wars- My nominee for best film. (This category is a lot tougher to pick.)

Arcade Video Games- My nominee for best technological innovation.

Other categories include TV- (Monty Python)

This is an epic. Dio is easily one of the best voices in metal.

Okay, this is a great song and Debbie Harry is very hot in the video (the lighting is what is yellowing her teeth).

There is a lot more, but I can't think of it specifically now.

This decade included all of my years at school and was probably the most uncomfortable extended period of my life.

I remember this decade for meeting my two lifelong companions;

1. Running and solo sports (the main if not only reason that I even made it adulthood)
2. My pervasive lonliness and isolation.

It was also the period when I learned that I was academically gifted and I learned to harness that gift, which I suppose has been my other lifelong companion.

There was some great music too; I think this decade with the height of the Disoc era; Donna Summer; Chaka Khan and of course Michael Jackson's first solo album right at the end of the decade.

There was also the punk rock movement, followed by new wave, romantics...............

A great music decade for me.

and of course a wonderful movie about a boxer who didn't know how to give up, that won an Oscar.

Thanks Rocky :D

Speaking of which, the album "Layla" was from the 70's. One of my favorites. Here's a live version of one of the songs on it.

Oh yeah! How could I forget: some of Zappa's best was from the 70's.* My favorite was "Hot Rats" which included "Peaches en Regalia." Here it is.

I was a fan of both Deep Purple (precursor to Rainbow IIRC) and Blondie. Was Rainbow a 70's group? I know Deep Purple was.

Thanks for the replies. Are there any other nominees for best film, technological innovation, or TV show from the 70's?

Anyone a Todd Rundgren fan? He had a couple of great albums in the 70's including "a Wizard, a True Star" Sorry, but I am having problems with the YouTube link. The studio music is much better than his live performances, since his engineering and production is amazing. He made some albums by playing all the instruments (not just synth) and the writing, singing, and production. Mike Oldfield did something similar with his "Tubular Bells" album.
