Why does my cat like human food?

I gave her a piece of lettuce just to see if she would eat it, and she did. Everytime I have salad she wants it. Then I was eating chips and sour cream, and she wants that to. I gave her a potato chip only and she refused to eat it, then I put some dip on it and she ate it. ??? Does anyone have a cat who likes human food?

Most cats and dogs love human food.

The only reason we don't feed them human food is because kibble is cheaper to produce and healthier for the animal.
We're not afraid to destroy our own health with some of the junk we eat, but we'll be damned if we let our pets eat that way apparently

Ever try eating cat food? lol if you had to eat that nasty crap every night you'd want "human food" too.

My dog usually eats the potatoe chips I drop on the floor. So the other day I thought I would play a trick on her by dropping a Wasabi Chip on the floor. She ate it right up and came back for more. I guess dogs like spicy food too.

My big fat boy cat loves cantaloupe..which I think is disgusting, but that is beside the point. Sometimes my dad drops blueberries (also gross) and my cats bat them around and bounce them off of the furniture and stuff

human food is designed to be extra-savory, unlike nature's own food which is mostly devoid of salt and sugar and spices. no wonder animals consider it first a novelty and soon afterwards a necessity. better-tasting is always the enemy of worse-tasting.

Humans are made of meat, and cats are carnivores.

I believe my kitty Nell enjoys licking Philadelphia cheese from my toast and also butter.

However, I believe great care must be taken as I believe some food is toxic to doggies and kitties, for instance chocolate and raisins.

^^ Yaye, I believe my kitties Nell and Plato very much enjoy the smell of olives. I believe I once happily ate some olives and Nell could smell them within my breath and wished to lick my nose.

My cat LOVES cantaloupe. Whenever she sees anyone eating it, she's always asking for a pieces. She also likes butter, jello, and ice cream. As for cat food, she only likes canned or dry Fancy Feast, and dry Meow Mix.

All three of my cats have been caught eating off our plates when we turn our backs. Our food has more fat content, and from an evolutionary standpoint it makes sense that most mammals would prefer it.

I've actually read that cats actually like enjoy food more depending on texture(if it's true, I don't blame them). They like food with jello type texture. Cat food, she prefers wet food over dry food, however, she likes the food that is cut in small pieces and has like the gravy on it. That they can kind of 'taste' water, too. My cat prefers water that is better oxygenated, I guess I should describe. She's not too fond of the standing water in her dish, but she loves to drink from her fountain and from the tap. She likes me to cup my hands under the running water and drink from there.
