The coolest toad ever!! !

This species was discovered a few years ago on the Nassau plateau in Suriname. It is believed to be of the Atelopus genus of toads which are all native to the neotropics. Unfortunately this magnificent (other species in the genus are brightly colored as well) genus is in decline and many species are endangered while others are extinct. The chythrid fungus seems to be largely responsible for the decline of the genus.

This species below (Atelopus cruciger) was thought to be extinct, but a small population was found in 2003.

Those are really cool toads. You can put those on T-shirts and sell them. Make a profit. :idea:

AFAIK....none of the species in the Atelopus genus are poisonous. They might be if you eat them, but unlike many, if not all, species of the equally beautiful poison dart frogs, I don't think they are poisonous to the touch



Poison darts are also native to the neotropics. The neotropics seems to boast a greater number of frog/toad species than any other part of the world.

European green toad I brought back on camp. They let me take it on the airplane in a water bottle, with a tree frog as well.

I've read a bit about the fungus that's killing off toads. I watched a documentary on it a couple of months ago, too. Crazy stuff.

Toads are beautiful.

I believe this species of poison dart frog is one of the least toxic species for humans.

You know captive bred ones aren't dangerous. They get their poison from the food they eat.
