The Microwave Appreciation Thread

I made this topic because I love the fact that I can use the microwave to cook a variety of foods, because if I had lived in a time where there were no microwaves, my diet would be limited to mostly sandwiches and cereal. I have a 1100 watt microwave that my dad bought earlier this year and it's wonderful!

Things I like cooking in the microwave:

El Monterey Beef & Bean Chimichangas
Jose Ole Steak & Cheese Burritos
Steak & Cheese Hot Pockets
Tai Pei General Tso's Chicken

I would have put "Mama Rosa's Mini Pizzas" on that list, but they don't sell those in Boise anymore.

I've never used a microwave to make non-food items explode before, but you're more than welcome to post about your experiences with that, if you have any.

I have to use a microwave: I can't really be trusted to use a conventional electric oven so I appreciate you writing about it IdahoRose.

I'm the same way! That's why I said in my original post "if I didn't have a microwave, my diet would mostly consist of sandwiches and cereal". And with the wide variety of foods available for microwaves, there is no shame in needing to use one instead of the oven.

I love the fact that I can just pop something into the microwave for a few minutes and let it cook rather than have to heat it up on the stove.

Without microwaves there would be a gaping, aching hole in the electromagnetic spectrum.

I heat water for tea and such in the microwave. Also hot cereal, sometimes soup, popcorn... I don't eat much in the way of microwaved foods. I don't like using the stove much either, though.

Microwave makes tea much easier and it also helps me when Im too tired to take care of something on the oven, I just setup a time that isnt too long and I dont have to worry about having an eye on what Im heating at the oven.

As do I. A microwave is great for warming up leftover pizza!

Definitely. I recently got my first microwave since living with my mother eons ago, and though the machine befuddles me ("How long do I put it in for?" "What does this button mean?" "Is that a picture of a chicken?"), it is good for leftovers.

You won't believe it, but I'm such a laggard that I just bought my first microwave a month ago. I have a lot of food allergies and need to prepare meals from scratch, so figured I didn't need a microwave, as heating up prepared foods seemed to be its main function. But I got sick of not knowing how to operate the thing when I had access to other people's kitchens.

Since getting my own I have, with careful scrutiny of food labels, found some prepared foods I can eat. I enjoy the new tastes and ease of preparation, but, still, I'm just heating things up. Anyone really cook from scratch in a microwave?
