Even oddballs and outcasts feel the need to connect with others that have had similar experiences. I'm thankful for such places too.

The internet was the best thing to come from the 20th century, in my opinion.

I've thought this before, but then I've done surprisingly well when faced with no internet (after a few days of withdrawal). But yes, it's nice to have some place to connect with people. Maybe I would not do so well without it long-term.

I'm now envisioning a literal world wide web.

i am a relative newbie to internet thingies, having been online only since 1997. i knew folk in the army who were using "The Well" back in the 80s- i sure wish i was that advanced back then, but i simply could not see myself being anywhere near a computer then, i was totally clueless in that field. i was dragged kicking and screaming into the computer age, only when i discovered that i could restore my old music collection [for the most part] ONLY with [digital] computer [algorithmic] techniques, there was/is nothing else comparable in the analog realm. so i reluctantly went to the local future shop and got the cheapest 'puter i could find [$1200 in 1993 bucks] and spent the next 17 years trying to figure the damned thing out. to get a lot of the audio restoration software i now use, i had to go online, 4 years later. now that i have become used to a treasure trove of just about everything under the sun online, i have to remind myself of what my life was like before the web. i used to have to get on my hands and knees [OUCH!] in dirty back corners of used record and book stores looking for the odd music that i now find at the click of a mouse. i haunted libraries in search of esoteric information that i now find at the click of a mouse. i was the nerd that wouldn't leave the computer stores, hungrily browsing the shelves for needed software, that i now can get at the click of a mouse. finding "adult entertainment" is no longer a seedy dirty bookstore thing- now it's as simple as a click of a mouse. i was totally bereft of anybody to "talk" to, that i really could be sure that somebody [at least one other person] might understand where i was coming from- but now, at the click of a mouse... anybody see a trend here? and to borrow a theme from john lennon- "before [wrong planet], there was NOTHING."

... but then an employer marched me over to one and told me to sit down and learn to use it, and now, like you, it would be cruel to even attempt to tear me away from one!

My wife does not seem to mind spending all day driving around looking for something I can usually find right here in less than three minutes. I am definitely in many ways dependent upon the internet.

Honestly if it wasn't for the internet I didn't think I would have made it in life.

I love the Internet.
