I was just wondering about this matter.

As it happens I was brought up in a 'nice middle class' home,

Now I for one don't have an issue with those who aren't/weren't, however the one thing that does get up my nose about SOME of people from poorer homes (although you will get those who are from better off homes committing crimes) is when ever one of them happens to mug someone (or whatever) they'll use an excuse about them being poor to defined themselves.

Now I know that not all people who are chavs (and the like) do this or mug old ladies and the like, after all many of my best friends are working class but it is petty if someone use's THAT kind of 'defence' to excuse wrong doing.

Added to that you'll get some people saying that such things (eg fighting in the street, or anywhere for that matter) is part of their so called 'culture'. which I REALLY hate!! !! !

After all I don't think that if I used my AS as an excuse to commit a violent crime many of you reading this would be very impressed would you?

Please do not think that I'm some sort of BNP Nazi, as anyone can behave well, all they must do is learn how, you don't need to go to an expense uni for that kind of thing.

And yes while I'm OK with those who do protests (no matter how nosey they may become, provided no one get hurt that is) and act out of desperation, I'm far less forgiving of the thug who steals money to buy drugs or an X Box 360, as that is just plain evil.

And don't get me started on how many of them bring up their kids...

Goodbyw Till Next Time

Most people are good and reasonable people, regardless of their economic situation.

From my own experience of life I'll agree with you, how ever as I'm yet to meet EVERY human being on the planet, sometimes I'm not to sure.

However I can't rule that out and so that's the rule I go by on this matter, in spite of the fact that there will be many post coming up soon saying otherwise.

Goodbye Till next Time (sorry about the 'cut and paste')

This. I would argue that the "bad" people would express their "badness" in different ways, depending on their social class. Upper class people will use fraud, scams and "white-collar" crimes (think Bernie Madolf,) while those in the lower classes will use more practical means to express their "badness" (such as robbery and mugging.)

Not all chavs are poor. I see a lot of fairly well off people acting like chavs to be cool.

I have nothing against chavs, no matter what their economic situation is, unless they've actually done something which allows me to reasonably think otherwise.

So it's their excuse that's bothering you? I really think "because I'm poor" is a lot less annoying than some pretentious crap about justice and the Constitution that some greedy rich people like to use as their excuse for stealing.

People don't always know the real reason they do something, so I'd have to look into their circumstances and their intention before deciding whether or not their action was justified.

I do feel sorry for people who are more poor than me because I know they struggle more. I also know there are people out there who are middle class and are still poor because they go paycheck to paycheck and also struggle to make payments despite that they own two cars and a house but they have all these bills they gotta pay and the mortgage. That's why I will never let my husband add more bills because I don't want to go paycheck to paycheck and struggle too and I am thinking about getting rid of cable if we have to and Gamefly and Children International so we have more spending money. I never want a house or it's more bills and less spending money. You would have to pay for water sewer and trash and the electric bill be higher. That's why I do not sign up for stuff because of money. It's rare when I do.

Not all poor people steal and rob. I think they do give the poor a bad name and I do frown upon those who do.

And as someone else said in this thread, there are people who are higher class who do scams and frauds and white collars (whatever that means) to get money.

I feel sorry for them. If I were robbed and found out that a poor person did it, I wouldn't be angry. I would say, "They must have needed that item really badly."

Poverty and having no class are two different things. We were very poor when I was little but my family never resorted to crime or ill bred activities like fighting. It's stupid - nearly as stupid as disparaging people because they're poor. If you're so much more refined you ought to know better.

Start a charity to fix the problem and educate people if you hate it so much. Maybe then you'll see the inner beauty that even "poor" people have.

I'm not entirely sure I agree, but I would like to say that I'm okay with most people, regardless of their economic situation, provided that they are good and reasonable.

Also, one doesn't heard the term "chav" very often in the US and it made me think of the Dr. Who episode a few years ago when Cassandra took over Rose's body and declared "I'm chavtastic!".

Really? My reaction would be "quit using excuses for your crimes and give me my s**t back."

I'm with happymusic on this one.

I get called a chav because I wear tacksuits to go jogging and I kindly point out I *exclusively* wear Adidas and never Nike so I don't get assumed to be a chav.

I hate them a fair deal to be honest.
