Howdy, you random people. Is there such a thing as truly random?

Only what happens in the future is random, and it is only random until a pattern or cause and effect is ascribed to it.

nothing is truly random, there is always a pattern, only that pattern of cause and effect is so extraordinarily long and complex that the only way to describe it is random.

Okay, in that case, elaborate.
I would like to hear the reasoning and actual method behind such a thought. 8)

say the first action was the big bang, then every thing that has happened since has been a result of that, just continually branching off into new and unexpected ways, but if you could see ever action (from the subatomic to the size of the universe) nothing would be unexpected. that is my reasoning, i am not shore what you mean by method

Ah, you are referring to the "seed" way of thinking about randomness.
Same thing is with computers, a seed value (spawned from some constantly changing element (ie. system time)), sets off a pseudorandom number generator.
A seed is what always starts a random reaction. I see your logic now. It just so happens this is a analogue universe, so the range of randomness is greater.

So again, I see your nice logic. :)

Then in that case, I can see where the logic comes from :)

more like logic led to computers

Indeed, because with computers, you know what to expect.
With the real world, there is zero way to discern what will truly happen next. As soon as every thing seems fine, something must happen to destroy our sanity.

At least, thats how I view randomness :P
