I would like to live past age 100 because I am so obsessed/fascinated with technology & I would like to see how much technology advances before I pass away. Probably in 40-60 years time, living to 100 won't b as difficult as it is today. 100 might b the new 50 or 60.

I'd also like to live past the age of 100. It would be interesting to see how much the world will change.

You don't really think Apophis will destroy the planet, to you? I mean, it's vastly more likely it won't, so why would you assume the improbable and shun the expected? :?

For a second I was sure this was a 2012 doomsday prediction. I guess I've heard too much panic about 2012 from family and friends.

As to the original question, my chronic illness most likely won't let me live until I'm 100. Scary new information is coming out about people who suffer migraines with aura too ... but in the case I do make it to 100, I'd be curious to see the culture. The internet will probably be ancient history in 2092. :P

I'm personally against increasing the human life span. How will we ever see social changes if paradigm doesn't die with its main proponents?

First of all this asteriod is actually in space, its there and you can troject its orbit, (with some uncertainy) this isnt a religious prediction. and nothing will happen in 2012 exept all the crazy people will come out that day

Apophis is going to pass under some of our satelites up there, so either it will get snagged in our gravity or it will hit the moon. I think we will know alot more when we get closer to it

If it doesnt hit that keyhole were fu-ked. If it hits the moon, we are fu-ked

And btw They have sucessfully predicted a asteriod impact on earth, I know because i've seen it on TV. It hit in Sudan and the muslims there thought it was allah comming back

It would be interesting if we could capture Apophis and use it as a counterweight for a space elevator in addition to being a giant space station

Some of our satellites are very far out, approximately 36,000 km. Thats not how it has to happen, if can be at a sufficient velocity that it can escape our gravity, and hit neither. Thats how rockets get into space. Remember, the earth is only something like 17,000 km across, we aren't a very big target.

Even though I'm not obsessed with technology, I'd love to see how much technology advances before I pass away, too. It would be so amazing.

That's an interesting idea. If we engineered ourselves into beings of super longevity, would we feel more compelled to create changes in our own lifetimes, or would we get stuck in longer ruts of stagnation?

Empires that rise, then rise, then plateau, then rise, then plateau, then fall?

I imagine that more life wouldn't erase fear of death. I imagine if it would actually make death seem weirder and harder to deal with, unless the culture dealt with it in a useful way.

The Bible teaches that the literal earth will not be destroyed.

(Psalm 104:5) “[God] has founded the earth upon its established places, It will not be made to totter to time indefinite, or forever.”

(Isaiah 45:18) For this is what Jehovah has said, the Creator of the heavens, He the [true] God, the Former of the earth and the Maker of it, He the One who firmly established it, who did not create it simply for nothing, who formed it even to be inhabited...

In other words 99942 Apophis will not destroy the Earth in 2029. Since the Bible say the earth will not be destroyed then you can believe for a certainty the Sun will not be destroyed by a supernova or other celestial event despite what scientists claim.

I can't really think of why I would want to live to a 100 :?. The only reason I can think that I would want to grow that old was if I was married and my wife was reaching that age. I'd want to out live her so I could make sure she was safe, and when she passed, I could pass on too. Otherwise, I don't really think I'd care to see how the world changes... I'm sure I won't like the changes, so it seems rather pointless :|.

That's an interesting point. I think you're probably right about it making death seem weirder and harder to deal with. As for the question of whether people would produce more changes in their own lifetimes--I would hypothesize that societies would change more slowly, since people become stuck in their ways and fear change. At the same time, though, I would expect things which are bad for the future of humanity and the environment (accruing trillions of dollars of debt, using up all the world's oil and forests, etc) to decrease, as these problems would seem more personally relevant to people.

^_^ That is very sweet. And I agree. I don't expect to like the path humanity will take, and I'd rather not be stuck on their road. I also don't think I get enough out of life to want to stick around for quite that long, and would prefer to die healthy, which is less likely at that age.
