What resources are available to use for learning sign language?

You really must take a class if you want to learn a sign language, otherwise it will be very hard to learn to communicate in one fluently, since you need lots of practice, and all practice is either in person or by video chat. There are however video dictionaries online, and lessons for learning phrases, like these two links I'll give you for ASL:

I love learning languages, and am intrigued by sign languages, but I can't learn one well without attending a class.

How much do the classes cost?

Most language classes are usually somewhere between USD$20 and $50 a session, but you'd really have to talk to a local teacher to find out, since it depends on so many things. You can also take classes through a university or college, but don't ask me how to do that, I'm still in high school.

I learnt some a few years ago and am now taking a class and agree it's better to actually be taught as a book cannot show the movements properly. Though a dvd would work too. I was lucky that the course isn't costing me anything as it was offered by a local group for parents of children with special needs
