if anyone lives in Encinitas or near it, care to tell me a little about this beachside town? I want to move there but id like more information first.

I'm near the Ventura/Los Angeles County line, but I go down that way fairly often. Since nobody has posted from there, I'll say I'm somewhat familiar with it. The people I know there, are middle class upper-mid income. A lot of military families with members at Camp Pendleton. The weather is cool all year, but never freezes. The only negatives I can think of, are (1) that it's near enough to the San Onofre' nuclear power plant to scare some people, but I wouldn't be scared of it at all. And (2) it's a crossing place for the illegal immigrants to run from the beach inland across Interstate 5, and that causes a lot of weird accidents, and they have put up a huge, slow Border Patrol checkpoint which when active, is a nuisance to local residents. There are some great surf spots near there, and as far as I know, the crime rate is low, and life is good.

Actually, Encinitas is well north of the areas where illegals try to run across the freeway (well, except for the area near Checkpoint Charlie, but that's way up north of Camp Pendleton, so still not so much of a worry). Prices tend to be high, although since the Encinitas area was incorporated and expanded northward up the coast to just south of Carlsbad there are now some slightly-less-expensive areas there. Traffic on southbound I-5 gets really nasty in Del Mar, especially during the fair; northbound, it tends to get tangled near the Hwy 78 interchange in Carlsbad/Oceanside.

On the plus side, Encinitas has wonderful weather most of the time, and some great little shops on the streets parallel to Pacific Highway. People will mostly leave you alone if you want to be left alone, which is nice. And you can get some really great Mexican food - look for little hole-in-the-wall joints, where they're listening to futbol on the radio and chattering in Spanish in the kitchen...
