It's 0815 on a Saturday morning. I sit in central gardens, got nearly an hour to wait for my bus. It's another amazing warm sunny morning in April. I have a newspaper and the mp3 firmly in my ears, oblivious to the outside world.
Ten minutes later I am aware of a shadow and look to see a woman is trying to get my attention, leaning forward into my space... when I see what she is holding
...I nod in the negative. But moments later because my concentration and privacy was invaded, I thought some more about it, becoming more vexed as I did. There may have been a few startled people in the gardens seconds later when I yelled "HOW DARE THEY INVADE MY SPACE!
Then on the mp3 player came REM's "It's The End Of The World As We Know It" (how spooky is that)...
More tranquil minutes pass until the same thing happens AGAIN, a different woman trying to impart on the world, her 'wisdom' and dumb manual... I say to her "What gives you a God-given right to invade people's privacy with this nonsense - if this happens one more time I will call the Police" to which she just said "Have a nice day" and walked on her way...
Analogies. Maybe you have to use a public convenience (a last resort these days the state many of them are in) and you find the cubicle door lock is dodgy so you shut it closed tight, what do people do? They still try and enter... umm excuse me, the door is shut, yes? Like, for a reason?
People walking in groups right across the promenade so anyone else from behind whether on foot or bicycle have no way of getting through or worse still those that just walk out into your path with no due care or attention...
I often wonder (though I am reclusive) whether I am the one who is oblivious after all, maybe it's THEM that need to wake up and learn some manners.
