Title says it all, really. Do you shoot, and if so, what do you use to poke precisely placed holes in paper at a distance? I have a small collection of WWII era bolt-action rifles (a Turkish Mauser, a Lee-Enfield No 1 MkIII*, a hex-receivered 91/30, and a M-44 carbine), and .22 rifle that I shoot for fun, along with a few pistols (M1911A1, CZ-52, & a M-1895 Nagant). I used to do a little skeetshooting with my shotguns, but haven't had the time & equipment to do much of that lately. (More to the point, you can't really work the skeet-thrower & the shotgun at the same time...)

You couldn't even get a license for those guns in Sweden or many other countries in Europe, unless you were a police- or militaryman or had been a professional gun collector for decades. All I ever have shot with is my grandfathers .22-rifle and his shotgun.

I went out a few times with my husband and his buddies. Kinda scared them when I shot a .45 really well at point blank range.

Definitely agree. If I would try to be a US citizen, it would be mainly for the 2 amendment. It feels humiliating to need a license even for the smallest firearm, especially when the dangerous criminals here in Europe most of the time are as well armed as those in the US. The governments here respond on that by taking the firearms away from law-abiding citizens or make it almost impossible to get a gun legally. In the European medias, America is often ridiculed as the land of gun lunatics. Both the citizens and governments in Europe act like cowards and not as free men, I think. They couldn't stop the wars in Ex-Yugoslavia without American help for example.

I'm afraid there's no hope for a lightening of the European gun laws in the near future, though. For example, the European Union refuses to let Switzerland into the so called treaty of Schengen (economically, lika you have between Canada the US and Mexico since a couple of years), unless the Swiss tighten their gun laws...

Sorry for this slightly off topic post.

Litigious if someone believes that they need a gun to be truly free, then that person is still a very long way away from freedom.

Back on topic, I have done some target shooting. I did some shooting with a .22 calibre rifle. But to be honest, if all you are after is the target shooting aspect, then buy an air-rifle. The laws are far less strict on them and you can have all the target shooting you want.

It's not that power, that "bang", that recoil, the smell of powder smoke. It's like driving a tractor compared to driving a car or a bicycle to a motorcycle.

I used to target shoot a lot when I was a kid, and got pretty good with my 22 for a little wile. But I have fallen far out of practice.

Also now days I’m kind of scared to shoot for fear that I will miss my target, and the bullet will travel like a mile and kill someone.

With an air-rifle, it's simply not the same feeling. What's fun with hitting a target with something that's almost powerless?

Hitting the target. But I do understand the question.

I used to compete quite often in a local club. Only for a small purse that each competitor paid into ... no trophies even though I am quite good with a big six shooter, especially in the timed cocker events. I also started a girls only instruction program for all those girls who were interested, but didn't know where to start with guns. We had to do three nights/week of instruction before too long and eventually improve the range to allow more night time events.

Ours was a pistol club, but we did have a 300 meter area to goof with our rifles. I assembled a really nice M1 Garand that was extremely accurate for it's type. I was mainly collecting early British weaponry. Do you know how many different versions of Webleys are available? A lot!

I was really INTO it, years ago.

My most fun and competent event was, arms in the air, holstered pistol, timed to win, shooting retired bowling pins off a large table. Consistently winning (1st, 2nd, or 3rd place got cash) in that event was very satisfying.
