if doctors found a way to eliminate the navel at birth, came up with some technique so there would be no belly button, would you go for it?

Imagine being the last generation of people with navels?

ummm the umbilical cord doesn't detach for upto 5weeks after birth. It would have to be eliminated after that.

AIUI the navel exists only because of the current practice of tying off the umbilical. Left to its own devices (ie. dropping off naturally) there's barely a mark left.

I thought they were still being tucked in to give that "traditional" whorl effect, so I suppose clamping them instead must give quite a flat and less obvious navel - just a small bump, I'd guess.

I don't care about my belly-button. I don't really look at it & I'm very seldom seen by anyone with my shirt off so it wouldn't make any difference to me. However some are attracted to belly-buttons; it's kind of a fetish; that's why some women get em pierced. I was a little attracted to belly-buttons a few times
