Well, this poll is just to take up room, and a way for me to kill some time. In my story, there's a chracter named Robyn. But I wanted to know which way to spell her name would be the most-liked one (yup, it a she). During school, I asked around my friends and did a knock-out tournament with all the ways you could spell her name (I even asked Starbuline to vote for each round!). The tournament finished, and a winner was chosen. Now, I want to see what you guys, gals, and any others think the best name is! Here is what she looks like:

Yes, yes, I know, she's not human, but hey, she's something, right? I like the little heel-wheels she has on her shoes. One last thing: All the ways to spell her name are all pronounced Robin, okay? Cool, now vote away!

The impression I get from the picture says to me, "Robyn" due to the character's casual and friendly appearance.

The character above actually looks a lot like Robyn Hitchcock.

The boy's and girl's name Robin is pronounced RAH-bin. It is of English origin. Nickname for boys named Robert (Old German, Old English) "shining with fame." Now commonly used for girls, probably with the red-breasted songbird in mind. See also Roberta. Actresses Robin Givens, Robin Wright Penn.

Robin has 21 variant forms: Robee, Robbey, Robbi, Robbie, Robbin, Robby, Robena, Robene, Robenia, Robi, Robina, Robine, Robinet, Robinett, Robinette, Robinia, Robyn, Robyna, Robynette, Robynn and Robynne.

100% Robyn. When I hear the pronounciation of "robin", I either think of "robin" or "robyn". Robyn sounds more feminine.

Speaking of which, I used to go to school with a guy called Robin. I think he was also an aspie.

Robyn Hitchcock? Hm, you'll have to give me a picture of her for that, I have no idea what she looks like!

Nice name-linking, pluto! Yes, I knew that already (hey, I'm Dutch myself!), and I also know a bit more. Here's the story: When Captian Cook (yes, Cook, not Hook) explored New Zealand, it was originally going to be called Zeelanda Nova, but he settled for Neiw Seeland (neiw means New in Dutch, and seeland means Sealand). Unfourtunately, due to a spelling mistake, it was interpreted as Neiw Zeeland, and they didn't argue because they thought that it was named after the Dutch province, not because it was surrounded by the sea as originally intended by Cook. So really, New Zealand should be called New Sealand!

Anyway, I'll tell you guys the winning name later on.

No it isn't, not in Received Pronounciation (which is the generally accepted way of pronouncing words that are English or of English origin). It has a short "o".

Rah-bin sounds American.
