An implant into the ear, or brain, connected to a remote control. When aimed at a specific object and activated, it would put that object on 'mute', in the sense that it would still be making a noise, but the person wearing the implant can't hear it. You could also use it on people.

I would pay for this, no matter what the cost. Even if it cost millions, I would find a way of getting the money. It is the one thing that would improve my quality of life immeasurably. I would be able to go out in public without wanting to scream 'STFU, world!'

Really good noise canceling headphones, and lip reading.

I want it to be selective than that - for health and safety reasons as well.

I would get that. Though I am fairly good at tuning things out.

So basically, you press the play button on the mp3 player and it plays the song of your choice to cover any noise (except probably gunfire and the like) you want. Your wish has already been invented. So all you do is, go out in public in headphones all the time, and occasionally take them out when like...paying for things at cash registers.

I get sick of music, you know. I already said I don't want to blank eveything, just specific kids screaming and stuff. Plus, I live in a rough area where I need to hear things. Even if it's a faint footstep following me home. What's with the sarcasm? I don't know what I did to warrant it.

I am with you on that one puddingmouse! In fact I really could have done with something like that last night when trying to sleep whilst my parents were watching the tv and making general noise. An mp3 player is not much use to me either because I find music can be just as irritating if I am anxious etc.

Yep. Where I live, people have loud arguments in the street at night when I'm trying to sleep. I can't fall asleep to music or with something in my ear. Ditto on the anxiety thing. I honestly feel weird and overstimulated after listening to music on headphones for a long period of time.

^Yes I know what you mean, I can easily feel overwhelmed by music.
