I asked DH to pick me up some of my sleeping pill OTC antihistamine tonight at Wal Mart. I explained very carefully where it was and that beside it was another box with the same name that had benadryl and not to get that. I told him that what I wanted was the yellow box that said "Equate Nightime Sleep Aid", not the blue one. The yellow one has doxylamine which works for me,, the bllue one has diphenhydramine which doesn't work for me well.

He brought home the benadryl. 50mg doesn't make me sleepy at all, and so I have to take 100mg of it. That's perfectly fine, 100mg is given by doctors and in hospitals many times here. It's the dose I have to take of it. Both were the same price too, $4.

Oh well, maybe I can get sleepy soon. I hope so!

Benadryl literally makes it so I can't keep my eyes open. My siblings are the same way.

It used t do that to me, the first few times I ever took it, it knocked me right out. For some reason I have a really high tolerance for anything, even if I don't take it often. One Ambien doesn't make me sleep at all, I need two. I had 30mg of Restoril the other night that my mother gave me (Welbutrin keeps me awake even though I take it early) and it didn't make me sleepy either.

I used to drink cough surup in highschool before they put the ban on it for alcohol content, purple and cherry flavor was my favorite
I also used to eat these deconjestant tablets that were quite yummy even though I had no real reason to take them

Doxylamine doesn't work so good for me but diphenhydramine is okay. I usually take it with clonazapam if I need to sleep. One thing about diphenhydramine is that while it is safe to take higher doses, you will probably be thirsty as hell when you wake up--that stuff can dry your mouth out like you wouldn't believe.

One word of caution, if you do choose to take more than the recommended dose, please make sure it does not have acetaminophen in it!

It is so very easy to build a tolerance to benzos like temazapam (Restoril). 30mg temazapam is barely noticeable to me. I am still trying to decrease from 2mg/day clonazapam.

I have a love-hate relationship with Benadryl. My suicide attempt years ago involved Michelob and 48 50mg capsules of Benadryl. I ended up spending 2 months in the psych hospital. A few years after that I slept at a friend's house. I slept on the floor and she has 2 cats. There were cat hairs and the unmistakle odour of cat urine in the comforter she'd given me, but since it was the only thing available it had to suffice. In the morning my entire body started swelling up. By mid-morning I couldn't see a thing because I now looked like the Michelin Man. They gave me IV Benadryl in the hospital. Benadryl. An aspie love story.

WHAT IF: you could have combined the experiences with the blanket and the beer? It would have been more streamlined (JK)

Glad you're around to share that

1 lovely Medi-cal doctor had me on 50mg Seroquel, twice the amount needed to knock me on my tail for 2 days. I met a dude that was on 400mg and smoked 1/4 of pot a day, and still bounced off the walls

Benadryl, last time I remember taking it, it didn't make me sleepy at night, just it made me sleepy the next morning/whole entire day.

I drink Benadryl when I want to avoid unpleasant things, like when my dad picks me up from work. He has no ac in his car, and it's HOT. But if I"m asleep, I won't notice. The Benadryl gives me an odd feeling, though, like I kind of dissociate.
