As you know, we have a Giant Flemish Rabbit. Everytime DD would tell DH to get bunny food he brought home carrots and celery. She thought that was sufficient and he's been eating a lot of those for about the last week or two. No commercial rabbit food. She also hasn't let him out to hop around in a few days, but he does have a big cage, about six foot long by three foot wide. She's kept it clean and he's had water.
Today when she took him out and brought him in the front yard to get some fresh air he didn't seem to want to hop around. She brought him in and he would try to hop but didn't seem to have any strength. Of course this really upset us and thats when I asked if he's been fed today (I had left all that up to her, she's 15) and she said she gave him carrots but had been out of commercial food for over a week. I went and got some food and he ate a good bit of it and seemed to feel much better after about an hour and started hopping around, but I'm wondering what could have been wrong.
It could be that he wasn't getting enough nutrients, or that he was in his cage too long, or maybe even some wierd bunny ailment that I don't know about. I was thinking that because he seems better now that he's ate, it's got to be food related, but what to the experienced bunny people have to say?
I also can't afford a vet at all right now, and our vet won't let me pay part now and part later. She's even refused to see animals who have been hit by cars because the owners couldn't pay up front. She wouldn't even put them down without payment. She's the only one in town though and nobody likes her but thats where you gotta go.
So, what's ya'lls ideas about the bunny?
