Picking up interesting items

I usually look for cool stuff when I'm out, mostly I grab little strands of wire, fasteners and random metal objects that I eventually use. In my area the guys with the scrap metal trucks beat me to most of the valuable stuff but if I'm walking I can usually find enough stuff to fill my pockets. Last time I did a righteous alley cruise I scored a gallon bottle of hand soap, and the time before that an industrial size pump sprayer for insecticide or weed-b-gone. It's sort of a productive interest for me

Portland Saturday Market is the place for that kind of stuff for me.

Sometimes I find bottlecaps in perfect condition when I go out to the park for my daily running. I'm slowly starting to build a collection of them. Right now I have 5 (two of them are the same kind)

I wanna go rock hounding again. The desert is the ideal place for this as you can find, alot of cool rocks out that way.
Flagstaff is surronded by dormant volcanoes so not too much is going on in the way of gemstones. unless pumice is on your list of things you want to collect but personally I find most volcanic rocks boring unless its obsidian

The desert obviously has fire agate, garnet, peridot, amethyst Etc.

I had a girlfriend who got a kick out of finding pennies. She would seem genuinely happy. So of course, I would throw pennies everywhere.

Every once in a while, I'll collect a stone I like when I come across one, but I think I am oblivious to most things.

Oh no, none of this for me any more - I'm too prone to hoarding.

My mother and her best friend (with us kids) used to go looking through stuff people had thrown-out, abandoned buildings and skips...sometimes for us or sometimes to collect stuff for charity, we used to pick up so much STUFF and I tend to be able to make use of pretty much anything so had a lot of junk when I was younger.
