help me out. i really need advice.

my neighbor in the same building, but different entrance, asked if she can leave the dog with me for ten days, because the dog has arthritis and hurts her to go up the stairs to their third floor apartment. i live first floor five stairs up.
she said it's only for ten days because after that she and her husband will go to romany and take the dog with them. because they have a job offer in romany.
then she came up with some story about the job didnt give them a sign document and said it's not ten days but three weeks to keep the dog.
then she came up with another story about the docotor suspect she (the woman) had a stroke and she has to get checked, so it's going to take over a month. and she was crying.
now she says till the dog dies she wants her to stay with me, and they won't go to romany, because she's got a nice job here, and she doesnt trust the people who offered her a job in romany. the dog drags her foot and lays on my floor panting, not barking, not doing anything.
i dont pay for dog food because the woman gave me dog food, and takes her out twice a day. i basically dont have to do anything. some days the dog is willing to go up the stairs to their house, but most days she's with me, most nights, she goes with her owner, missing her all day long, she's willing to go up the stairs.
i gave the woman the key, because i work in the afternoon and comes home very late, so i cant be at home when she takes her for a walk.
i asked the woman why they dont move to a building with an elevator and she said it's too much bother to move.
my brother said it's not ok the woman, who lied and is obviously not honest, should keep my key and he's worried and i should ask for the key back, and give her the dog, sherri, back.
but i dont want sherri to suffer. she's the sweetest labrador i've ever seen, and non of this is her fault, and those are her last days. her owner said she's twelve and four months, but maybe that's a lie too...
they gave me a large fan, but not a penny. they said when they leave they'll give me their sofa, oven and tv. i said no, it's ok, i could just take the oven. but now i see that's a lie too, because they're not going. (and obviously never intended to).
what should i do? what would you do?

I would either ask for my key back or change the lock, but try to take care of the dog anyway. Maybe the owners could work around your schedule. Or maybe you've just got yourself a new dog.

I think it might be a good idea to suggest to these people that they should invest in a wheel barrow or some kind of trolley so they can take the flaming dog upstairs with them.

if they put the big, fat labrador on a wheel barrow or strolley, will it hurt the dog when taken up the stairs? and she's so heavy.

In that case then you'll have to construct some kind of hoist. I've seen them do it with whales when they transport them.

Having the dog put down would be a lot simpler & less painful for the dog. It seems selfish of the owner to expect you to keep the dog indefiantly till he dies instead of the owner keeping her dog in her own apartment. She could leave the dog in her apartment instead of taking him down the stairs to go outside.

if she leaves the dog in her apartment, how will the dog go to the bathroom?

He could go in there on newspaper or something like the Potty Patch for example. You got the dog because the owner doesn't want to deal with that

I think the having the dog destroyed is probably a lot easier and quicker than constructing a hoist.

Just to take it out of the way: yes, your neighbor is abussive AND a liar. She wants to keep her dog comfortable at YOUR expense. Your brother is right: you should ask her your key back. You can teel her since the situation changed and the dog is staying without definite date, you do not feel comfortable with someone else having your keys. You should also ask her for a fair rate for having the dog with you. If she was forced to place the dog in a shelter, they would charge. It is just a matter of making them responsible for their dog. They should be, because it is THEIR dog. And it is staing in YOUR place. And not matter how little, it is affecting your life, so they should pay for it. If they dont want to, give them their dog back. It is not your problem, anyway. But then again, that is just what I would do. Or maybe not. Because I would have never take the dog in to start with.

I defo think you should get your key back or else you don't know what else they might leave in your house.

what will they leave in my house? what CAN they leave in my house? and yes, i'm not happy about the situation. if it would only hurt those people, i'd get my key back now, but it's the poor dog i cant stand to see suffering. she hasnt done anything and she's in pain, and those are her last days.

This thread makes me feel paranoid

i dont want the beautiful dog to be put down, i just think they should find a building with an elevator. it's not that difficult. and i love the dog.
