Checker taxicabs & routemasters share a common bond!

Just looking at the Routemaster thread had me thinking about the old checker Marathon taxicabs too. Checker cabs were just as much a part of New York as Routemasters were to London. Checkers changed very little through their history. Since the demise of the Checker, the streets of New York just haven't been the same, just like there's something missing in London! Still, New York souviner shops are still filled with Checker taxicab models. Years ago, the streets of New York was a sea of checkers

I too, have collected Checker models, although I probably don't have hardly anywhere near as much as Cockney has Routemasters! I got the chance to ride in one over the summer when a friend visited from Pennsylvania. He bought the car from the New York Transportation Authority years ago. It wasn't painted cabbie yellow though, it was a bland shade of beige....he didn't charge me for the ride either!

They look like the taxis out of the game Crazy Taxi. Maybe that's what there based on.

They were also introduced to NYC in the mid 50s, around the same time that the Routemasters were introduced to London. I love the 1950s.
