A little, but it's more a surprise at how a box and 'rope' is used to ferry people up and down all day and there are so few accidents. That and more people should use the stairwell. It's much better for your health to climb stairs.

I've been using the stairs not only for exercise, but because the elevators are always in high demand and filled with people.

However, I still get that kids' sense of satisfaction from pushing the buttons on the occasions that I use a 20-ton freight elevator. :D

I've been very interested in elevators since I was little. I like the older elevators that have the round light-up buttons.

I found them frightening contraptions when I was very young.
My mother used to take me to 2 department stores that had those open wired cage type where you could see all the workings, the cables etc. It was all too much for me and I would never get in one.

They don't bother me now as long as I don't think of the lift shaft while I am in one.
I recently watched a few good videos on youtube a lift engineer had uploaded, as therapy.

when i was in the army i had a chance to become an elevator constructor apprentice, but when i saw how hazardous and difficult the job was [despite the top pay] i declined.

Well, There's a lift around here, It's effectively stuck to the wall, Not actually in a shaft, and not really on a wall...

I hate it. I really do.
