Sorry, but i'm really getting sick of this. I've seen people here refering to their avatars as .avi's. This is incorrect. An AVI FILE IS A VIDEO FILE, NOT A STILL IMAGE FILE.

You're avatar is either a .jpeg or .gif

Rant over.

Without the dot, it's correct! I've seen (and/or used) 'avi', 'avvie', 'av' to refer to avatars, but not '.avi' with a period.

No, an 'avi' is a multimedia container format introduced by Microsoft in November 1992 as part of its Video for Windows technology. AVI files can contain both audio and video data in a file container that allows synchronous audio-with-video playback.

Do bitmap files not work? I thought any image file would work, but I've never tried.

^ Don't know. The biggest problem is getting them within the size limits...

I found that "The avatar filetype must be .jpg, .gif or .png" in the avatar upload page.

that is being worked out at this time, Jpeg's are going to be able to be made alot bigger, but as for audio, I don't think they have that at this moment.

Agreed 100% - to call your avatar picture an "AVI" is completely wrong. Not only does "AVI" not make sense by lettering (unless I suppose you're huked on fonics) but it IS too easily confused with the AVI video format which owns the lettering and claim to it.

I have a hard enough time with MOD (Amiga style music format) vs. the now more-common "mod" usually meaning game modifications. :oops:

...but it's pointless to resist the human horde... :roll:
