What is a banshee fire engine? I did a quick search and couldn't find anything.

I wish i could take all sirens, and electrical alarms, put them all in one place and take a sledgehammer to them. it'd be great stress relief and rid the world of this horrible sound.

The fingers come more in handy to plug up both ears when those suckers come blaring down the street. That's what I do and I don't care of the fire engine, police, emergency rescue etc people think it's rude. Serenity is more important than making them feel that we all appreciate their hard work.

I'm second-guessing Wendell, but I think he referred to the myth that banshees scream with a very high voice.

Actually, the sound I cannot stand is babies crying. It sends off a major cringe in me, and I feel like yelling at said tot "SHUT UP!! !! !! !! !! !! !"

The firefighters are the last public workers that will put their lives on the line to save mine. So I wouldn't use the gesture that you mention. But does the siren shatter my nerves? YES! The firebell - that's worse than the siren!

I don't hear them half of the time, and when I do hear them, they hurt me ears.
