I actually think "In the Night Garden" is cute

Yes, you read that right....I'm a 21-year-old woman who has seen an episode of the BBC preschool show "In the Night Garden," and I think it's cute. I looked it up, and I learned that it was a show created by child experts in the UK who wanted to develop a show that helped infants and preschoolers wind down at day's end and transition to bedtime, whereas many children's shows are geared towards getting them energized. Surprisingly, the same people who worked on ItNG also did Teletubbies, only I always found the Teletubbies to be somewhat nonsensical and condescending even to infants and toddlers, and I actually kinda like ItNG and the concept/goals behind it. Heck, I even felt relaxed and peaceful after watching an episode of it on Youtube.

I vaguely remember when ItNG was a "thing" in the US (although it had been going on in the UK several years prior to its general release in the US)...I recall seeing toys for it in WalMart and Target when I wandered thru the aisles looking for Cars stuff...wish I'd paid more attention now; I could have easily snagged an Igglepiggle plushie fairly discreetly back then. Which is another thing, I really like this cute character from ItNG called Igglepiggle...I actually think he's the main reason I think it's cute. He's a little blue plush doll who carries around a red blanket, and he communicates solely thru squeaks and bell sounds. He also has a tendency to fall flat on his back when he is surprised. I think I liked him right away because in the show, he looks like he's covered in minky, and he sorta reminds me of Tack from The Thief and the Cobbler; since he never really talks and has a sort of childlike demeanor.

Soooo, yeah....am I weird? I mean, I haven't told anyone about this (except here) and I tend to keep my fondness for certain preschool shows relatively private. I just really like cute things, and I've never understood why some people regard that as a "bad" thing. My dad's in his 70s and still likes Winnie the Pooh, after all.

I saw an episode of that once and it was the most awesome thing ever.

I've seen quite a lot of it because I have a three year old daughter. Her favourite doll is named Daisy after Upsy Daisy. It's better than some tv programmes that I've seen but it's not one of my favourites. My daughter also likes watching Fireman Sam, The Octonauts and Sesame Street which I prefer.

In the U.S. version, did they do a different voice over? The UK version has a man narrating with a very British accent.

i like the show because it puts me at ease. i like how the narrator says 'don't worry igglepiggle'. i can relate to him.
