Today me and my bro got into a punch up. I was in a bad mood this morning and I started to get annoyed with my brother. We argued in the kitchen and he started saying how much stronger he was than me and that I was a horrible person etc..... The argument got rather heated and I did threaten to throw a knife at him. This pushed my brother over the edge and he walked up to me and hit me around the face. I lost my temper and punched him a few times around the face and he then shoved me to the floor and elbowed my head a few times ( a move he was taught in kickboxing). I think he stamped on my head as well. I have a few bruises on my head area. I did also feel dizzy, and was seeing stars. My mum came into the kitchen to break up the fight before it got out of hand

We have been arguing for days prior to this incident and last night he had to restrain me.. I am 24 and my brother is 21.

Can I have your opinions on this incident! My brother told me half an hour ago " I still feel like fighting you again " :(

My advice:

Don't ever threaten anyone with physical harm ever again. Don't initiate. Be wary of your environment and what threat people can pose, but don't initiate. Pre-emptive strikes of force are pretty much illegal everywhere. None of this is to say that you shouldn't be ready to iniate violence when you need to in order to protect life & limb, but you escalated the situation with your threat of harm.

Your brother wants to be a dick, let him be a dick. -- So what if he's stronger. Either get stronger than him because it's important to you, or don't and spend your energy elsewhere. So what if he thinks you're a horrible person. Either you are, and he's uselessly stating the obvious which means he's blowing hot air, or he's wrong, and he's blowing hot-air.

And don't fight. No matter how much he wants to. Tell him to blow off steam sparring at the kick boxing club or something. You're not there to be his punching bag

If your brother makes you angry or upset again, maybe try just saying something like, "I don't want to talk about this right now" or "I have to go to the bathroom" (even if you don't really have to, a little white lie would be okay if fighting/familial strife is a possible outcome of sticking around) and then go to a safe place like your room. When my older stepbrother and his wife were fighting over playing Taboo one night when they were here for Christmas, their fighting made me uncomfortable so I told everyone I was going to bed, said goodnight to everyone, left, and everyone was okay with it. :)

If you've escaped the situation but still feel mad, try beating on a pillow or even venting here on WP, like in The Haven forum or in the "Something that made you UNHAPPY today" thread in the Random Discussion forum. Other people might post who can help you. :D Or talk to your mom or dad about it.

By the way, how are you feeling at the moment...physically, that is? It sounds from your original post that your brother really roughed you up. :( Hope you're feeling somewhat okay now.
