The reason for my Poll is that yesterday my Father gave me the gift of being able to legally add the title of Lord before my name.

Today I went about my usual businness, and DEFINATELY that title did increase my confidence & self-esteem. However at the same time I felt Pride. It caused me to feel as if I was better than other people. That is wrong. VERY WRONG.

I want to be an equal to others. Nothing better, nothing less.
Just an equal; regardless of all those things that divide society, put people into "boxes", label, categorize, and "pigeon hole".

I am considering having the title of Lord removed, as I want to be an equal NOT having a title that makes me appear superior to other people.

Would you want to have the title of Lord or Lady?

I choose the actor. I observe NT's. I listen to their socializing. I practice it, so in social situations I can just emulate/mimic what is expected.
It isn't natural for me, but it enables me to "fit in".
It is VERY tiring and draining, but at least we can appear like them even though it is an act. Like being on the stage.
They can't see it is emulation, and so we are accepted.

I don't think I'd care for a title.

I have a nickname at work or people call me by my sir name.

That's good enough for me.

I don't feel too much like a lady anyway. I'm too boyish.

No thank you. I have enough issues with such categories as it is, already. I'd rather stay a boyish 21 year old Mod forever than be a lovely, proper lady.

I think you have the right attitude about this. These titles reek of fat, useless ticks on the back of society, of social privilege and underserved wealth that was built by exploiting the oppressed masses. I think all remaining titles of nobility should be abolished for the sake of social equality. The surviving "noble" families — or, worse, "royal" families — can call themselves lucky that their inbred ancestors weren't guillotined back in the 18th century (as I think they should have been, in order to rid the gene pool of the very worst of narcissists).

I said that one because I have one person at a rental agency she can't seem to get past calling me Mrs. despite me making it clear I am single, lesbian AND feminist - REALLY? you don't get these add up to NOT a Mrs. ?! I am NOT owned by a man!

I think The Pearly Drag King of WrongPlanet would be a more appropriate title for me.

First of all, this is pretty cool:

This is quite possibly even cooler:

I think it's a great attitude that you want to relinquish your title, because you feel that it creates a rift of inequality between you and most other people, and because you can see in yourself that it would fill you with minor feelings of superiority (not saying that you're arrogant or haughty or anything, I just think it's great that you have the self-knowledge to admit that you have shades of this).

So I would say, go through with it and remove the Lord title. You're obviously not comfortable with it, and that's all that matters.
