Have you ever been in Wroclaw, Poland

I was born and live in Wroclaw. This is a very beautiful city. I wonder if any of you have ever visited it.

In general, I'm curious do you visited ever Poland.

Would love to someday. I love hearing the Polish language.

I have been there on ski vacation with our ski class, around the Zakopane area. The ski facilities were ok. As an engineering class, we loved the typical rural house style of old houses, so that long roofs, that nearly touch the ground and the wooden upper levels and so on. We visited as well a bigger city in the Zakopane area, that had an old classic style center area.

The food was really fine, the alcohol was cheap (Sorry, we were teenies. ^^), but groceries like fruits and Cola seemed to be more expensive, which surprised us. Prices of beer in night clubs are similar expensive. (Two of our classmates usde the free evening to visit a nighclub, got surprise about the prices of normal beer bottles, could not pay, were not allowed to leave, and had to call the teachers to pay for them, who first called their parents to ensure, that they will receive the money back. XD )

In the end it was a really nice trip, and for people interested in architecture, its really cool.

I'm older now and don't have the money, but if I did, Poland would be a place I'd travel to. In fact, I'm interesting in seeing much, if not all, of Europe. I'd also like to visit the Far East, too. Oh well. Just dreams of mine.

My Paternal Grandparents where West Prussian, driven out by the Poles ethnic cleansing in the 1920s following the assignment of Prussia to Poland at the Treaty of Versailles, so yes, I do what to visit our stolen homeland.
Specifically Graudenz on the Vistula that the Polish now call Grudziądz, is it a nice place to visit?

No disrespect to you as I know after the war, Poland adopted a policy of eradicating anything Germanic from Prussia, destroying graveyards, even teaching that Poles had built the castles the Teutonic Knights had built, they taught that the country was originally theirs and the Germans had stolen it from them.

This is not the case however, Prussia was originally inhabited by the Baltic Tribes known as the Prussians, Poland tried to conquer this land but was always repelled by the Prussians, now do you consider this makes Prussia Polish?, the fact they wanted it first, though they where never successful?

So the Teutonic Knights were invited to conquer and Christianise the pagan Prussians which they successfully did,

This means that Prussia originally belonged to the Baltic Prussians, it was then Germanised and taken over by the Teutonic Knights. Poland hadnt got a look in at this stage.

Later on, due to the harsh regime of the Teutonic Knights, the Germanic Prussians enlisted the help of the King of Poland to overthrow the Teutonic knights which they did.
Prussia then joined the Polish Commonwealth but still was called Prussia, still had its Germanic government, language and peoples.
The Prussians provided a much better home for the Polish peasant classes than Poland itself did so many Poles did move to Prussia and become Germanised.

These activities aimed above all in the former Russian and German culture, in areas previously occupied by Russia, Prussia and Austria. No one here did anything or is responsible for anything, as long as he/she is not about 80 years old. The only thing we should feel responsible for, is not to do the mistakes our grandparents did. And blaming each other, about stuff that happened 3 generations before us, would be one of that mistakes in my oppinion. There happened a lot of sh***y stuff to our grandparents generation, and there is no reason to denie the cruelties that happened, but the more its a reason to never let such stuff happen again. Half of europe might have been once Austria, Preussia might have been german or polish, ...

But actually we are all EU, so if someone feels the need to return to his grandmothers homeland, everyone is free to do so now. ^^

What you right is true and the right thing to do regarding those areas that were Poland proper, they should never have been taken by the Germans and Russians and Poland is completely right to eradicate Germanic influence in these areas.

The areas I was talking about however, were not these, they were the North parts of Poland today which was known as Prussia, and Poland has no more right to eradicate the memory of the original inhabitants than what Germany did to Poland itself.

Imagine how you would feel if Poland hadn't gained independence and Germany was claiming there was never such a country as Poland, that they where "recovered Territories" the Germans were taking back from the Poles, you would feel sad that not only had your country been stolen, but that the very memory and legitimacy of your people was denied.

My looks by the way indicate I am of Baltic origin rather than German so I have two cultural identities insulted by Polish claims.

Well you again right, Lithuanians say the same thing, like Poland in the 20's seized territories today's Lithuania and parts of present Ukraine, Poland wanted to prevent the seizure of these lands by the newly formed Soviet Union. But unfortunately both Ukrainians as Lithuanians claim that Poland was trying to destroy their native culture, which is untrue in my opinion,

You are indeed an honorable person, most people place national pride above this.
And of course it was not Poland who stole Prussia, rather it was Churchill and Stalin, Churchill who encouraged Poland to push against Hitler over Danzig with promises the British didn't keep resulting in the Nazis destruction of Poland, and then letting Stalin keep much of Eastern Poland he took when he invaded from the East, giving Poland East Prussia as compensation after the war.
How do the Polish feel about the loss of their Eastern territories?

Why?, and what part did you go to?
Iam hoping to visit there one day and would rather avoid a negative experience.
